Why are European football club matches between Scotland & England referred to as Battle of Britian matches?

Every time there are European Club matches between the two countries , the media hypes them up as "the Battle of Britian" games. Surely this hype is totally out of context and using our brave servicemen's names in vain. It is these comments that gives the media a gutter reputation. Discuss.

The clue is in the question you tw@.
because Scotland and England are both in Britain you dope it is called coining a phrase ***
Media needs things to hype about and sports is perfect for boosting sales. Especially clashing two British nations is always a good selling point and they need a dramatic name to enhance the situation. You getting annoyed would please them to no end as it's more free publicity.
Remember William Wallace?

Well, that is one reason why. They fought for independence, they didn't get it. So now, they pretty much hate England. It was pretty much a civil war, hence the term, Battle of Britain (England and Scotland are both apart of Britain, now called the United Kingdom).
They are referred to as the Battle Of Britain matches because its all money related, honestly mate, who really cares. so when you go to sleep tonight just think, who cares. try it. it works. and if you don't try it, who cares.
Sweetpanther You are a typical uneducated Nigel! Scotland is the oldest current nation state in the world, We never lost our independance! we only became part of Britain in the 18th century through Political concensus so get your saxon face out of the Sun newspaper and read up on some facts!
England = Brittish
Scotland = Brittish

Two teams playing against each other = Battle

?? mmmmmm No i dont know why they call it that
I think the media get a gutter reputation from the lies they print, the various stories about people's sex lives and the general public manipulation the carry out daily. To object to the term battle of britain being used is just political correctness to the extreme if you ask me. Next we will have to remove the no bombing signs in swimming pools in case it offends anyone.

Whats wrong with using the term, with a bit of luck it will keep in the minds of people more where the phrase originally came from. Im yet to see a group of ex Raf pilots campaigning outside a football match so i think you might be in a minority.
