Is it safe for me to swim in the sea/ocean and to open my eyes so i can see bottom without wearing googles?
On holiday i dropped my googles so i dived to get them, and obviously I had to open my eyes and i was impressed with how much i could see. But is it safe to do this reguarly?
Answers:
There is nothing unsafe about it. Salt water is a natural substance. The reason people wear goggles is that the water irritates their eyes and limits visibility. If you don't have this problem than go ahead and swim without. You must be half fish though. I find it impossible to swim in the ocean without eye protection.
Sounds like you need new "googles".
Won't do you any harm
Why would you want to do that.
No you will do damage to your eyes.
Use goggles and be sensible
Yes. In fact, when casting for the role of Ocean Girl, the title character of the TV series, the producers specified that the girl should be able to swim underwater with her eyes open for long periods.
Its a lot safer to open your eyes in a swimming pool as pools have Clarine in them to kill germs but you still have to be careful if the pool has not got enough Clarine in it can sting your eyes but if it got to much it can burn if this does happen you can wash your eyes out with water and be OK
In the sea its different i would not risk it because there too much sh.it in there
Sea water good.
Chlorine bad.
We never had goggles when we were kids and we swam in the sea nearly every day in the summer.
i think its safe enough
Your eyes are naturally covered in salt water (tears). So you're not really exposing them to anything unhealthy or unnatural by swimming underwater in the sea without a mask/goggles. Provided, of course, that you're not swimming right next to a sewage outfall, oil refinery, chemical plant, nuclear power station, I think you get my point .
I'd far rather swim in the sea without goggles than in a pool. The ocean is a lot less polluted than your average municipal pool, if only because the gunk is more diluted. I wouldn't drink water from either of them without boiling it, though!
it is safe to do but i would advise rinsing them out after, just like u would get a shower to get the salt off your skinn u will need to wash the salt out your eyes, if u r confortable withoout wearing goggles try getting the larger eye masks, like what divers wear
very safe, as a swimming instructor I encourage it. It boosts confidence, and will help you one day if you ever need to rescue an unconcious casualty. Make sure the water is not polluted though. I'd say it is more hygienic than the pool
um. ouch. that salt stings doesnt it? but i havent heard of salt hurting your eyes. it might dry them out though.
it irritates the eyes. I dont think it could do any serious harm tho, unless, you keep your eyes open constantly
its just salt
think about it...if you were a diver and it sound like u like to dive with goggles, when we are under 80-100 feet and our mask gets dislodged we get a face full of salt water, it may sting it may not, salt water is natural to your eyes.i know i did several open water classes with students and the only complaint they had with removing the mask was the salt water irritated their noses.so dive in and have fun,, just take a good shower when done.
