Did a spectator play for West Ham under Harry Redknapp once?

I am positive I recall a few years back reading of a spectator playing for West Ham whilst under Harry Redknapp's management. I'm sure that this guy was harassing the stuggling hammers and much to his delight Redknapp said "If you think you can do any better then you're on." So this guy came on and played some thing like the last half hour of the match.

Basically I want to know if this did indeed happen and if there is any where on the net that I can find out more information about this. Please help as I need to settle a bet with my step-dad, thanks.

Yes a fan did play for west ham once ! It was near the end of a season, could of been the last game i think, and he was giving Harry Redknapp a load of stick. So harry said if he could do any better he'd better put a shirt on and do it .So he did !!

Can't find nothing on the net to support it, but i think he has a autobiograthy out so it might be in that !

Good luck
I am a West Ham fan and can say that I do not recall this at all. I doubt it would have happened as HR would have had to register the player and everything.

I am aware of the bloke who sneaked into the Man Utd team photo and the England Cricket team photo once though.
i cant find any record of this.

FYI, the guy who got into the team photos is called Karl Power..
I recall think last year but not sure of the teams but the manager let the supporter take charge from the sidelines for a bit!
I think I can help you out here, There was an incident similar to what you have described. When Greame Sounness was at Blackburn, he recieved a call from who he believed was World footballer of the year, George Weah. He claimed that his cousin was a highly talented footballer who had played for Senegal and that he would fit right into the Premiership. Sounness (the muppet) decided to give the guy a month contract and subsequently brought the guy on as sub in a game against Leeds. His performance was so shocking, Sounness knew he'd been done by a regular guy and hauled him off after 53 painful minutes! The guy's name was Ali Dia and he'd already tried the scam on a few different clubs without sucess. Only Sounness fell for it!

I know that this isn't the same as you described but it's the closest thing that actually happened for someone playing although I seem to recall something about someone sitting on the bench and managing his team for a match. Not sure if this was West Ham though ?!
I don't think that is possible. For somebody to play in a Premier League match he has to be registered as a player. If HR did ask the spectator to play he would probably have been punished for 'fielding an ineligible player'. This can be punished by a deduction of points or even expulsion from the League.

So as far as I know, it didn't happen.
no not true what a brilliant result sunday
In a pre-season friendly a couple of seasons ago a fan was giving heaps of abuse to one of the West Ham players, so Harry told him that he couldn't do any better so brought him on as a substitute. sorry I can't remember who they were playing and I can't give an exact date, all I remember is that I definitely saw a report of it on Sky Sports News.
Dont know about a fan playing for west ham but a few of their players have been like spectators this season.
if hendo has the right answer contact sky sports and they will sort it out once and for all
