I always caught mine on boilies. I used to fish two rods with method feeders. Just used to use mainline ground bait you can get in any shop.
Don't forget to get them off the top in the summer with a bit of flake!
I will be slim pickings this time of year.
Don't be afraid to ask other anglers as well, you will find 95% are more than willing to share a brew and have a chat and offer advice.
I knew nothing about carp fishing when I started It was trial and error (lots of error) I just watched and asked other anglers.
don't worry too much about expensive kit. I was fishing with my cheap badger stuff and wiped the floor with the guy next to me with his £thousands worth of kit.
I would go to your local tackle shop see what is selling well, go buy a few copies of the carp magazines.
I would try and buddy up with an experienced carper, buy him a few teas.
I caught me a 20+lb on rancid bacon and dough-ball
in the summer floating bread caught a 20pounder this way other wise carp pellet on a baitband always catch with this method.Tight lines
pineapple & choc flavour maize works great caught over 50 high 20's
23 30's all commons from my local water
I like to spray anise on my bait it really makes a difference , got a 33 pounder last week .
we have always used doughball, we make our own using Wheaties and water, the only problem we have is perch will peck the doughball and break it up sometimes, we have caught some nice carp 15-20 lbs this way
i have caught them on just about everything white bread hamburger and Wheaties, strawberry glaze and Wheaties, corn i had a buddy catch a 35 lb carp on a 6''inch live bluegill i would say you could catch one on a dog turd if you could get it to stay on the hook lol
