Why is peterborough football team called posh?
Answers:
It is thought that the name "Posh" came from Pat Tirrell the player manager of Fletton United a previous user of the present club`s London Road Ground, he announced in close season of 1921, he wanted `Posh Player`s for a Posh Team` to compete in the Northampton-shire League, (later the United Counties League). At that period in time the club was known as Peterborough & FlettonUnited, also known as the `Brickies` they folded in 1932 leaving debt`s of 248pounds 1shilling & 11pence. "Peterborough United" started as a Football Club on the 1st September 1934 with a game against Gainsborough Trinity in the Midland League, a game which they won 4 - 0 in front of a crowd of 4,035 spectators. In 2004 Victoria Beckham objected to Peterborough United using their nickname "POSH", as she said the nickname belonged to her. Peterborough United have been known as "POSH" for 72 years now.
