Does kung fu actualy have the 8 animal styles?

Answers:
yes and they dont work.
I study Shaolin KungFu and we have five animal styles, the Tiger, Leopard, Crane, Snake, and Dragon. There are many different styles of KungFu so there might be more animal styles in the different KungFu styles.
There are many animal styles that have gone on to form whole new martial arts.
China is a country divided by mountains and vast distances of lands. As such there are as many martial arts as there are different types of culture within the borders of that wonderful country.
Yes, (and good answers to MOST BUT NOT ALL of the contributers here) there are as many as 8 but there is 5 major ones that are focused on by certain disciplines especially in the chinese arts: Dragon, Snake, Crane, Leopard, and Tiger are at the core of the Chinese arts. the Mantis is also another animal that figures into the Chinese arts.

but these disciplines have also found their way into the other Martial Arts throughout Asia. and they DO work as all Martial Arts or Combat Arts work in some shape or form, depending on the person you may face, but your strategy and training should reflect upon the body type, or knowledge of that individual.

Martial Arts trains you in a way to be ready for such instances, but not necessarily in the exact way you train in class. so that's why you train in the "what if" sense so that you'll be ready when the time comes and you're faced with that situation.
every styles differnt. Kung-fu is any martial art that came from China. There are way more than 8. i can name a few for you. Crane, leapord, tiger, dragon, monkey, snake, rising pheonix. And a lot of those are based on different other fighting styles Hung-Gar, Wing-Chun and various other dialects which all have different animals. so to say tehres a limited amount of animals is incorect since theres thousands of forms in kung-fu. Shoalin Kung-Fu is the most spread because of the shaolin monks going out on tour and showing it off.
Chinese martial arts can actually be comprised of many animals, not just 8.
Most people recognize the five animals of Shaolin (leopard/panther, tiger, snake, crane, and dragon), but there are many others besides those.
A few other popular animal styles are eagle, bear, monkey, mantis, horse, and even elephant. Each system incorporates movements associated with these animals, and represents either different emotions, philosophies, or both! There are even sub-categories therein, such as black tiger or golden dragon.
Whoever says they aren't effective must be very wise to contradict thousands of years of success, hmm?
Yes and they're a pain in *** to learn, very hard to use, and absolutely useless in real life situtation.
I know not a system with eight and only eight animals. However, many systems are inspired by animals and the grand total numbers vastly more than eight.
There are some systems and styles built around single animals:
Praying Mantis, Snake, Eagle Claw, Dragon, Black Tiger, Dog, Duck, White Ape, Monkey, etc.
There are some systems with features from multiple different animals:
12 animals of Xingyi, 5 animals of Shaolin, Tiger and Crane of Hunggar, Eagle and Snake of Taichi, etc.
There are breathing exercise/systems based on animals:
Five Animal Frolic, Wild Goose, Toad, etc.
I do a style called Kuk Sool Won. Its also Korean like tkd. A lot of the forms or katas as you call them are based off animals and you wont get to find thier true uses till black belt and higher. There will be all sorts of animal movements you will see the higher belts doing that you would never realise what animal it was. For instance thr rat. Its usually used to attack pressure points on the legs when you are in low stances. Or the bear, which attacks thin parts of your bone structure like the collar bone, cheek bone etc. Check out my 360 page and have a look at my masters spin kick. Just click on my name and it will be easy from there.
