Is basketball still an American game?
I see these overpaid ego maniacs in NBA claiming to be the best and yet when they play outside their little world,they seem to crumble.I think they are over hyped and that the rest of the world has come to know what they don't.Others play for the love of the game while they play for fame.I am not a European,but I was glad to see Greece send them out in a spectacular fashion.What do you think?

I'd say you hit the nail on the head. The pampered egomaniac/thugs of the NBA have gone soft and know nothing of heart. I still don't think you could beat our college kids though.

I think it goes back to style. Everyone today focuses on going to the hole with their best shot. Pro teams do not play the fundamentals of basketball (i.e., defense, crisp passing, free-throw shooting and overall team play). It's too much 'look at me.' American basketball is entertainment.
Don't think so? Magic Johnson and Larry Bird were great play-makers and got the whole team involved. Michael Jordan did that later in his career when help finally arrived with some good players on his side. There is no one like these guys in today's American Basketball.
First of all I think that your first statement is a bunch of bull because in the World Champoinships and in the 2004 Olympics, the best players in the NBA were not sent. Kobe wasn't there, T-Mac wasn't there, Shaq wasn't there, and the man named Allen Iverson wasn't there. They took a bunch of players that haven't prove that they are the best and really aren't. LbJ is not the best player in the NBA neither is D-Wade. They may have the best future talent but now the guys I named that weren't on the team are the best.
About them being overpaid ego maniacs, that's true. The ones that truly love the game you don't seem to hear about. However I do think that America is the homeland of basketball, because players that play on European teams come over here to play and matchup against who they think are the best players in the world.
And to the guy who's right above me, there are some pro teams that do still play with the fundamentals of Basketball. The Dallas Mavericks are one they have everything that you say, defense, crisp-passing, teamwork, and free-throw shooting.

Your comments are excellent and summarize the current state of world basketball well. Our pro players are great individual talents but are very selfish and their sense of entitlement is sickening. I think the rest of the world looks at the American team and finds another reason to believe that Americans have a false sense of superiority over the rest of the world.

Lets see the international teams play NBA rules, USA would win by 20-40 everytime. International ball is all about shooting. Thats why losing kobe was such a blow because hes ones of the best perimeter shooters in the world..

Some really valid points here, i am a big basketball fan and i love to watch the American game because as stated above it is Entertainment!, we love to watch the flash light bulbs and the celebs on the court-side seats with kobe doing some 360 dunk on someones head, but this is why i love to watch, no other country has invested in this entertainment value with high scores and a fast pace the game itself grabs the attention spans of it viewer, the American public are by far the largest and harder to please audience out there (hence why they Have so many commercial breaks) and basketball meets this need people love it enough for the NBA to create these super rich ego-maniacs who have lost the true love for the game, but then again this means the money is there to move the game into college and create the best players of the future.
To sum up Basketball is not an American game but a game America users to entertain its public and yes i agree create some of the best basketball players in the world, but this is just a by-product of the later. talent and love for the game combined with this would equal greatness and we have seen this in the past with American players and we will continue to See it until we see basketball on 'game of the day' not just football (soccer) football football, it is after all a European sport and more people need to watch it and love it!.
