How did new zealand become known as the all blacks?

i know they play in black but i was told that it comes from a misprint when they were described as being a team playing such attacking rugby for the time it seemed like a team of all "backs"

I know this! They used to play in Black and White but then one day they played a match against another Black and White team so they played in All Black and they liked it and so they carried on wearing All Black, and people called them the All Blacks from then on.

Im not sure, but the New Zealand basket ball team wear black too and are called the Tall Blacks- Honest
