Why are there so few good English managers?
All the best teams in the Premiership have foreign (or Scottish) managers. There are no top clubs abroad with an english manager either. And the national team coach was probably only picked because he was already in the national teams management and nothing to do with his achievements.

The ENglish Premier League is no more the same as it was 10yrs ago. Coaches like Mourinho, Wenger and Benitez are all brought up from different schools of management. But one think that all the three of them have is technical ability. U can see they play defensively but technically solid matches, which says alot about their background. English Managers are different. They play a open attacking football which will most of the time will not get u results against these coaches. The same goes to Mc Claren, who will suffer when England faces technically strong teams like Italy and France. Remember how his Middlesborough was slaughtered by Sevilla in the UEFA Cup Final? But there is one English coach who has the ability to compete. He is none other than Roy Hodgson, currently coaching Finland. He did wonders with Swiss national team, now he's doing the same with the Finns.
Its funny how Scotland produce good Managers - but the players seem to be a bit lacking.in something.. I think it has something to do with the Aggressive tone most Scots have especially Glaswegians, the Scottish players don't get intimidated by their Manager - but the English players get a wee bit frightened of the
" Hair Dryer " effect..like the one Sir Alex has. England have chosen a very timid character in Mr McClaren and a silly old has been as a side kick.. An England team with Alex Ferguson on board would be a team worth watching.
I have always wondered why is it that the English create a sport and then become awful at them. To answer your question the problem is never thinking how to improve. The rest of the world took football to another level while we slept and only kicked the ball in air up front hoping to score. Who wants to watch that. People want to be entertained. People want to be entertained. That why Brazil, and France are adored coz the entertain. The English I will tell u where we entertain in footballing terms. the excuses we give when we fail. hot weather, humid, no rest, penalties..
Alan Pardew's quite good. :D
Most managers have previously been players themeselves. Now as the Premiere league is mostly comprised of foreign players, such home-grown talent is not nurtured at the highest levels; and as not every player will want to coach, there are even fewer options. With more English players playing top-flight football, in the future there would be more English managers with better managerial jobs and results.
The simply answer is english managers now dont have much european experience. As case in point of Steve McLaren and Sam Alladyce in UEFA cup last season.
OBVIOUSLY THEY THINK AN EARLY HEART ATTACK IS NOT WORTH A MILLION A YEAR YOU CANT TAKE IT WITH YOU
Maybe it's to do with the money they get! The Premiership is full of over inflated egos and they cant handle a bit of pressure! Managers from over the border have nothing to prove!
They don't get the chance. Chairmen seem to be seduced by the foreigners (managers and players). How many Englishmen have been given the chance to manage at Manure, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs or Everton over the last decade or so. I'm of the view that if Ferguson was to swap jobs with, say Dowie, then there wouldn't be much difference in the fortunes of Manure or Charlton.
