Why do the US call their baseball championship "The World Series" when no other countries are involved?
Answers:
Originally it was sponsored by a Newspaper Called "the World" and even after they went out of business the name stuck, so as you can see its not because they are egotistical.
Because they think they ARE the world!!!
Because, bless them, America (to American's) is the world.
I have always wondered this myself.
The term "World Series" (short for "World's Championship Series") was first used in the 1880s, when baseball existed at a highly-skilled level only in the USA and international travel was rare. The traditional term "World Series" continues to be used for the Major League Baseball championship.
By the way there still is a another country that has a team eligible to play, Canada.
Because they're fools?! They call their winning teams the 'world champions' too.
With the mentality of the people who preach no child left behind, they have made geography nothing more than how to find the closest fast food store on a map. The world is where I am mentality.
egotistic country, nearly every popular sport known to man was invented by the british, then bastardised by the americans
Because they live in their own little world!
Self obsessed idiots
You got that question off John Cleese!
I have no idea, they just like to make it sound bigger and better like Americans do for everything else
Take a look at all the players in the major league and see how many are born outside the USA then look at any other league in the world and you will see why it is truly the WORLD SERIES.
Because they are arrogant pricks who think that they are the only people in the world worthy of competing against itself. Does anyone know the rules of baseball?
We do it to confuse the small, slow, but arrogant British mind. The mind that has been genetically mutated by umpteen millions of pints of lager. We find it amusing that they can't find answers to simple questions. Especially questions that have been asked on here 1,000 times.
If Bush can say all those stupid things he does, then other stupid americans can do the same. Forgive them ok.
Arrogance.
In American colloquial terms "the World" refers to North and sometimes Central America and usually more specifically to the United States. It is thought to be a contraction of the phrase "The New World", an old name for the Americas.
Because they think they are the world
"Abner DoubleDay! You've discovered baseball!! But, what will the world think of your accomplishment?"
"Ahh, I shall try not to take the opinions of the world serious -- THAT'S IT! I'll call it "The World Serious!"
Will everyone reading this please "STOP" asking this same question over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over .......AGAIN! PLEASE ENOUGH ALREADY...PLEASE STOP!!
I s Canada not a country.
The World Series is the only true world-sporting event, where the best team plays in the best league with the best players. Unlike the European Football leagues, they have a league for each country, and elite teams in it so since they don’t all play against each other you may never actually know who the best team is. In baseball, the cream raises to the top so to speak and the best team wins. Because MLB will and does find the best players from around the world and have them play in the league, below is a list of some countries that have had players play in the World Series.
Aruba, Austria, Australia, Bahamas, Colombia, Cuba, Curacao, Czechoslovakia, Dominican Republic, England, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Panama, Poland, Russia, Scotland, South Korea, South Vietnam, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Ukraine, Virgin Island, Venezuela, and Wales just to name a few
Once again we answer this question. The original sponsors were called world series, which I think made cigarettes. They just kept the name after that sponsorship finished. Can we now get some peace and quiet around here.
It is called the 'World' Series because it was originally sponsored by a newspaper called 'The World' (not sure where, Boston or Chicago or somewhere).
Apparently you didn't get it the first 30,000 times that this question was posted Moron! There sure are a lot of people jealous of the U.S!
Nearly 30% of all major league players are from other countries. In the minor leagues (where most major league players start their careers) the number of foreign players in over 40%. The best players in the world play in Major League Baseball. It doesn't matter where it located; luckily for millions of fans, the teams play in North America.
But it is the "World Series" because that is where the world's finest players play. And as an American, I thrilled that players like Ichiro, Martinez, Pena, Clemente, Nomo and countless others have chosen to play at the top level in the world, and have a chance to play in the World Series.
Now drop it.
because we are Americans. we can do whatever we want. we are the world
because there is a team in canada which is another country
