Can anyone translate these karate terms or are there any good websites for this?
I've found a site with just japanese words on but i want one so i can understand what each move is in english so i can see whats needed for grading. I also want to know what Yoi, Kamete and Ippon kumite mean for the Sankukai style of karate, such as on www.sankukaikarate.co.uk/
Have tried a japanese dictionary but these words arent in!
Answers:
Yoi= Be Ready, it is a command
Ippon kumite = one step sparring exercise, it is a drill
kamete= ?? I never heard this one before.
Try asking your sensei for a list of terms. We tend to right them down after class. It is not unusual to see a bunch of us writing what we learned in our journals after class.

Im not sure of the first two but ippon kumite is one step sparring
One person will step through with a punch or kick the other will defend and counter
Dude,
Yoi means to get ready, its a posture that resembles attention posture( but hands kept over the genetial position, overlapping). kamate is the next position that resembles the stand-at-ease position, it means your ready to face anything.
ippon kumite means one step sparring, i think you know abt it.
