Are Nunchuka's legal in the UK for martial artits?

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to buy them but can they be used in Dojo's? I've always been fascinated by this simple but brutal weapon, supposed they're easy enough to make yourself but are they legal in the UK?

What other weapons can be used in karate other than Sai?

Answers:
For the purposes of training then soft or foam are permitted.
Metal or wood no, but foam handled are allowed.
Hope this helps.
I have wood and foam ones, they sell them in martial arts shops, so can't be illegal to buy. Can confirm that wood ones hurt like hell..so would stick to the foam ones:0) You can buy katanas and train with them as well, but reckon you would have to show that you are going to a lesson to have a licence to carry. Have you tried a bo? Escrima the Philippino based stick martial art is fighting with two smaller sticks which look harmless.so you could try those.
Bearing in mind that English and Scottish law (that's where I am) are different, not to mention the local bye-laws that exist due to never be removed. Um. for example as party of my uniform for my job there is a pocket for a craft knife, it is illegal to carry a knife but as it is an essential part of me doing my job then . you see how common sense comes in here. If asked you are taking you karate weapon to the dojo and hence have a real reason for carrying the item(s). Anything else and you deserve what you get. I personally train with the jo staff (4ft), shorter than the BO (6ft) though I have heard that the tip must be no higher than your nose when standing. The Jo is to parry away and attack a sword wealding attacker, give it a try it works for me
my information is no you cant use them , check with local police . tonfa , which is a short handle with a curved blade fixed into the end at right angles to the shaft., Bo ,which is a 6ft tapered staff. good luck with your training .
i got arrested once for having a long weapon.....wife didnt complain though!!
They are not illegal to own, but they are illegal to carry in a public place, so don't keep them in your jacket when going down the pub! Then comes the question "How do I get them to the Dojo?", which is simply answered by geting a carrying case for them, or putting them in your training bag. I found the best way to learn was to get a heavy wooden pair with studs running down the side of them. After you've bashed yourself on the head a few times you soon stop doing it! Oh, and for the record Glasshopper, Escrima sticks hurt like hell if you get bopped in the right place, trust me!
