Who is the greatest Premiership player ever?
Any nationality, any club(in the premiership) and any era?
Answers:
For value for money it has to be Eric Cantona!
Eric Cantona
jurgen klinsman.simply coz he made it cool for great foriegn players to play in england
tis shearer ....he was a legend and english
George Best, before he ruined himself with drinking
Eric Canton...thierry henry..Tim lovejoy!!....I think its got to be Alan shearer.I'm a villa fan.
The one and only Eric Cantona
2nd closely follow by Gian Franco Zola
Alan Shearer
Goalkeeper - Peter Schmeichel followed by David Seaman
Defender - not sure
Midfielder - Steven Gerrard
Striker - Thierry Henry closely followed by Alan Shearer
Thomas Brolin
eric cantona since he came to the prem all other players have had more confidence to show of their skills instead of playing and not showing their ball skills.
SO far i would say alan shearer.
Alan Shearer - a legend
For longevity & consitency Ryan Giggs (& probably the most successful)
roy keane and ryan giggs
Goalkeeper: Massimo Taibi (Best ever purchased by Alex Ferguson)
Defender: Jean Alain Boumsong (Formerly of Newcastle) and now he has passed his great defensive skills to Titus Bramble
Midfielder: Cristiano Ronaldo (the midfielder who dribbles and dribbles and finally forgets to pass the ball to a teammate and also forgets he's defensive duties)
Striker: Eric Cantona famous for his Kung fu kick
gotto say eric cantona
To date, Thierry Henry is the undisputable champion in my opinion
Eric Cantona. The man was a class apart.
ERIC CANTONA...
Liverpool's Kenny Dalglish
I'm afraid I'll have to go for Shearer for sheer consistency, and not at one of the massive clubs either.
Well, if you're talking about Premiership then that only covers the last 14 years or so but if you mean the top flight then that's a slightly different thing. However, I would argue that player who are currently playing the game (or have only recently retired) will always be better than players from the 60s. The game has changed so much that if you were to pluck any football heroes out from the past and play them today they wouldn't be able to cope.
I'd go for Roy Keane, Gary Lineker, and probably Beckham.
very difficult to answer because of different positions, midfielders and strikers always get more limelight.
but goalkeepers..Schmeichel and Seamen
defenders..Neville brothers,Sol Campbell,Ledley King.
Patrick Viera.
Midfielders..Ryan Giggs,Cantona,Roy Keane.
Strikers..Shearer,Henry
obvioulsy there have been many great players in the top flight before the premiership started,in my lifetime(i,m 40)i would have to go with Glenn Hoddle and Paul Gascoigne as the 2 most skilful(but i am a spurs fan).
but overall i would have to say giggs as he,s been around for so long,is still playing in prem and he,s probably won more then anyone else in prem.
Shearer is a close 2nd,but how good would his record be without so many penalties?? and i hate to say it but Henry is pure class, but as a Spurs fan i can,t possibly put him at number one.and Giggs has won more.and he,s british!!
Ali Dia, shame he didn't get along with Souness!!
Also Adi Akinbayi was good, just a shame he could only score against Sunderland.
Another is Keiron Dyer. He doesn't even play but gets £80,000 a week. Now that is great! Infact.. The Greatest!!
Ooooh Ahhhh Cantona
Eric Cantona gets my vote. Sublime on the field and great at Judo.
Henry
tony adams
Overall there have been a lot of amazing players that have played in the Premiership including Keane, Cantona, Giggs, Shearer, Henry, Klinsmann, etc. However, the person I have chosen is top of my list purely for the impact he had on both the players and supporters - Gianfranco Zola.
He was the first (and only) real genius we have ever seen in the Premiership. Unlike the other players above, Zola did not have a single enemy and people would enjoy watching him no matter who they were supporting.
One of the best games played by any individual was when Zola played for Chelsea against Liverpool in the FA Cup. At half time Chelsea were 2-0 down, but magic from the little Italian helped them turn the match around and eventually they won 4-2. I remember John Barnes (who played for Liverpool in that game) voted for Zola as Player of the Season for that one performance alone. When asked by a journalist why he voted for Zola (as Zola came to England half way through the season), Barnes replied "Did you not see him take us apart?"
