Better for Celtic to get a place in the UEFA Cup?
Would it be better for us 'Tims' if we settled for 3rd place in the group stages and get a long run possibly to the final of the UEFA Cup than risk getting turfed out in the knockout stages of the Champions League? What are the financial benefits too?
Hail! Hail!

you couldn't win sod all in europe no matter what competition you are in so it doesn't really matter does it?!! Take the money and run.
Yeah But I think the Gorides are going to the UEFA cup finals..
UEFA cup is a diddy cup, come on - Rangers are in it!!
Seriously though, Champions League is biggest stage clubs can play on, we have to proceed, id rather get to quarters of champions league than semis in UEFA.
The difference financially doesnt really matter, do you think we will see the fruits of our european exploits anyway. The money will go to decreasing debts not bringing in talent!
C'mon the Hoops!!!
no danger we would be making history by getting to the last sixteen n the financial benefits ie sponsorship, tv rights would be alot more than the UEFA cup, let rangers embarass themselves in that cos i can see them getting beat tonight,
When was the last time did any scotish club advance through to the Knock out stage?
Celtic can't compete against big teams...look at SPL league.who is their only competetive team? ..(Rangers)
Celtic need better teams playing against them on SPL week in week out, if they want to have a real chance of being a big team in europe.
Even if they reach the UEFA cup, they tend to get knocked out on the Quater finals.
i think it would be better for everyone if they got knocked out, then we can stop hearing about how brilliant they are. hopefully Man utd will do them over in a few weeks.
why not try for 4th place..
U tims are priceless last week u were gettin to the quarter finals of the champions league, now you'll settle for the UEFA cup with third place. what a difference a game makes! Talk about faith and loyalty, u lot don't know what it means.
We Are The People!
the way you lot carry on it's better if you both go out of both comps then we can all concentrate on football and not biggoted non-sense that has no place in football!!!1
no ,we have to think about next year and the future,we have to stay in the champions cup and try to raise the co-efficent for ourselfs,we have made more money so far than we would make going to the final of uefa cup.
obviously the champions league.with ur support at home games & a bit of luck in the draw u could make the quarters then who knows.that defeat to benfica may just give u the gee up u need for the final 2 games.good luck anyhow
Celtic have got themselves a real tough task now just to remain in Europe. They could end up getting no points from their last 2 matches although I wouldn't wish that on them. Their target last night should have been to leave with a minimum of 1 point but the way they played and the way Strachan set up the team gave them no chance. The Champions League is not the SPL which Strachan should know better than anyone and his tactics were all wrong. It's going to be very tough against Man Utd because they also need the points and a Benfica win against Copenhagen will really put Celtic in deep trouble because they will count on Man Utd beating Benfica and will be looking to beat Celtic for the UEFA Cup spot.
WHY
No we get more ranking points and cash for progressing in the big one, let the Govan Orcs play with the rest of the minnows in the losers cup.. Hail the mighty 'Tic.
I don't think it would matter because to get anywhere in these Competitions to have to win away from home and this is something the Celtic has not done in the last few years.
UEFA cup wasnt just a sucha diddy cup in Seville when you had 60 trillion fans there, was it? Short and selective memories.
Glasgow Celtic will fancy their golden chance of securing the lucrative knock-out stage rather than playing in the UEFA Cup. even if they progress to the UEFA Cup 3rd round, can they actually qualify all the way to the final as they did it in 2003? i would say no.
Get a life pinkyblue you get on my nerves. Why dont you pair up with that dimwit Jock
Rangers made the second round last season, so I'm sure Celtic will want to equal that. The financial benefits will be great as well.
And I mean, there is a possibility of drawing AC Milan or Bayern Munich. Granted they are tough to beat but the atmosphere will be amazing. It will be great for the players to experience as well. Who knows, Parkhead might just be an intimidating enough place, and Celtic can beat the giants and progress. Just look at Arsenal last season.
y r condoms round?
