What does butting mean in terms of bike tubing?

And what is triple butted tubing? Thanks!

Answers:
Butting can often refer to being pressed together "Butting something up close to something" maybe 3 pressed together tubes?
Just means joining the tube together at the corners obviously triple butting is making sure the frame does not come apart when riding over rough terrain
not 100% sure on this, but i think butting is the way the inside of the tubes sre built. a frame woodnt be to strong if you just welded hollow tubes together. so there are some structural bars inside the frame, kinda how the honeycomb shape makes corrugated cardboard stronger.
I think that butting means that the tubes are not the same width along it, but they might be thinner at the middle and stronger at the extremes.
Like the guy above me said, the tubes are reinforced at the ends and thinner where the stress is less. This is done with pretty much all quality metal bikes and spokes too.
This yields a stiffer yet lighter frame.
butting is to weld one tube to another.
Double butting has a taper on one tube that fits into another tube which is then welded to make a stronger frame. some bikes use a type of sleeve which fits over the butting to help add strength. the frame strength becomes important to get with the use of lighter frames. Spokes that are double butted means that the the spokes are thinner in the middle of the spoke than the two ends this is to cut weight.
The butting is the joint between the end of one tube and another tube so this is the weld and triple butted means it is welded in three places normally extra plates or gussets are added for extra strength
And the answer is none of the above.

Butting as it pertains to bicycle tubing means a change in wall thickness of the tubing, usually thicker at the ends and thinner in the middle. Refer to the pictures in this webpage from Columbus (one of the biggest makers of bike tubing):
