What the hell is the country coming to when a footballer is cautioned for crossing himself?

A Polish footballer playing for Celtic crosses himself as he is called onto the pitch from the sub's bench. It appears that many Rangers fans found this offensive, and a subsequent complaint was made to Police. The footballer in question was apparently given a caution. Silly to always talk about kicking racism out of football (a justifiable cause nonetheless), is it not time that sectarianism was kicked out of the game too? There are different roads to God, but they all lead the same way eventually.

Many Glaswegians may deride this question, but as an Anglican (Episcopalian) with ecumenical leanings from South of the border, I would like to know their views. Please speak freely.

Answers:
I think it is absolutely disgraceful that the Polish football player was cautioned for crossing himself and it been seen as offencive, why was it offencive and would they caution the Pope for doing the very self same thing, I am not a Catholic but do respect that it is part of their religion to cross themselves and it should be their right if they so wish, I honestly do not know what is going on in the world when a man who has faith is condemned for it.
that is ******* ridiculous. when was this? will you tell me the number for the Glaswegian police because that is outrageous, seriously??
I know i had to read the story twice to because i couldn't believe what i was reading !!
Freedom of speech !?! its laughable .. OK the guy wasn't speaking but u get what i mean . its ridiculous..
Have you ever know a Glaswegian NOT speak freely??
I can't believe, that's proper crazy, man.
This is only the beginning mate things are gonna get far worst when it comes to freedom of expressing Christian faith. Wach this space.

Now you've finished watching read someone elses post.
He wasnt cautioned for crossing himself...get your facts straight.
He was cautioned for inciting the crowd by making gestures. The Crown Prosecution Service has made an official statement on this.
If you search around the 'net you will find that this is not the first time Boruc has been warned about making gestures to opposition fans behind the goal, in fact you can find videos on youtube showing him at it! He knew where he was and what to do to annoy the home fans.

As for having a go at Rangers fans, you'll also find Celtic fans complained about Paul Gascoigne pretending to play a flute. What other fans in the country would find this offensive? Celtic started the ball rolling on this one and its come back to haunt them.
Things like that can cause riots at a Rangers Match. I remember Paul Gascoigne got cautioned for pretending to play a flute at the Celtic Supporters.
All Celtic and Rangers players are aware of things which will wind up the opposition. He didnt have to cross himself.
How about getting your facts straight before going tabloid?
get your facts right you ignorant FUD
faith is a personal thing and it should be kept that way !!!!
there is no need to display it
as for England keep you nose out you lot will swing anyway you are told by your labour government (aka Cherie Blair )
No place for that crap in football. I pay to see skill not someones beliefs in religion. So he has to be punished. The same applies to any player that takes there beliefs onto the pitch. Times are changing, suggest you move with it.
Aye, it is a bit much. They're trying to get rid of the bigotry, quite rightly, but this is PC gone mad
You should heed what Kyral replied and get the facts correct before you pose the question. Rangers v Celtic matches are highly explosive occasions and any player who deliberately lights the fuse should be charged. They are always on about the supporters but some of the players past and present are just as bad.
small minded biggots
