Why can't goalkeepers wear head-helmet ??

i think what happened to chelsea goalies could have been avioded if they head protection

Answers:
It would be plain silly. Although it might protect the keeper it would impinge his view and restrict his play. It would also be dangeous for every player going to head in a free kick or any other such activity that would result in a player coming into contact with the keeper's head. It happens many times every week and. Cech's injury was a fluke. Besides we don't want to become like American football do we! Football is a contact sport. And they're all well compensated for the risks they take. £100,000 a week and more. The real tradgedy is Mourinho's pathetic reation. - over the top much!
Ehm it would decrease visibility?
true, but then if they wear a head-helmet, everyone else that is playing would be wearing head-helmets.and u know how footie players have nifty hairdo's like er.david beckham.they won't want to wear a head-helmets cuz that will mess up their hairdo's.and it will be hard to see who's who on the top rows of the stadium.
It's a man's game, and these things happen. No way does the game need protective clothing beyond shin-pads. Just look at those american footballers. I rest my case.
Getting smacked in the head must give them a real 'buzz'
You are absolutely correct if you look at hockey, american football, cricket, rugby etc. all these sport has some form of head protection involved just in case of the inevitable happening so why should football be any different, and what happened in the chelsea vs reading match just proves that.
c'mon reading! chelsea played like girls on sat. f.uckin useless.
they don't really need their heads... they need their legs and hands.... lol...
they could'nt wear a helmet like an american football one because if there was a clash of heads with a striker, then the striker could be killed or something. goalies can wear lightweight headgear though, its not against the rules but up to the individual
I'd say they could, but would they?
Lmao oh my. soccer players are such pansies. if you can't stand the heat then get out of the kitchen!

Rawlyn.
Because then it would gradually transform into American Football and we don't want that.

(I hate Football/Soccer, but the principle of losing a British sport is wrong)
cos they'd look stupid !
because what happened to the keepers were fowls and if the players had played 2 the rules and challenged sensibly then there wouldnt be a problem.
and what about the players? Mark fish was also injured on the head sone few years ago
Do you ever watch rugby league? No padding, no helmets, no goggles, no gloves, no shin pads, no boxes, no fairies ... no problem.
There's a good argument for introducing them after last weekend's Chelsea goalkeeper nightmare!
In Theory they should not not need it as football is meant to be a non contact sport and apart from the ball hitting the top corner of the net it should be on the ground at someones feet for 98% of the 90 minute game
It is true that if there was a clash of heads between a helmeted goalie and an outfield player, the outfield player would come off much worse than the combined injuries of the two players with no helmets involved, so on balance, it would be worse. Also what kind of pansy football does babytink watch? Foootball IS a contact sport and most teams don't have the ability to just use ground passing to break down a defence. It would also be too predictable to defend against.
Stupid idea, a helmet for goalkeeprs would INCREASE the danger of serious injury to other players.

PS football is NOT intended to be a contact sport, the whole point is to retain possession of the ball by AVOIDING contact with the opposition!!
dont be silly that would just cause more injurys to other players when they go up for the ball then theyed all have to wear them and thats just silly never gonna happen and as for the accidents how often do you see that sort of thing happen not very often the games been played like this for over 100 years leave it be..
There are "helmets" worn already. Full 90 select makes a soft head gear. I have seen players in MLS plus WNT US wear them. I bought two and let my players wear them. They actually liked the feel of heading with them. Plus the confidence it gave was great.
There will always be the "it's unmanly to wear protection" debate. Which is all well and good. You can love and play the game no need to die or suffer from it. Its all about having fun!
goalies are allowed to protective headgear like the skull cap used in rugby .as it is just made out of fabric and padding it does not cause danger to other .. so under football rules it would be allowed .. but it would look a bit nancy boyish .
Pro players make soccer look ***** enough as it is, and plus goalies dont need helmits, ive played and any goalie injuries are simply bad luck
