What is the best inexpensive baitcasting outfit ( reel / rod ) for saltwater & freshwater use.?
I have seen on the Rex hunt program that they use much lighter tackle than I'm used to, but this seems more than adequate for catching pretty big fish. Can someone recommend a similar combination of rod reel & line that won't break the bank.
I fish in Scotland for salmon. I also do beach fishing & have just started inshore boat fishing.

With a 5 star rating and a quality rod & reel this one would be a very good choice. I'd go with a 6'10" MH rod for your type fishing. Fill reel with 17 lb. Trilene XT mono.

I've got some boat fishing tackle for conger eel, which has been sitting in the garage for a few years not doing anything, you can have it if you think it isn't too heavy duty for your needs. Getting it to you may be a bit difficult though.

i use a abugargia med-heavy action rod ($30 at wallmart)
and a shimano fx 3000 ($16 wallmart )
for every thing from bass to walleye to striper and blues to sea polack
well how much you wanna spend i have just bought a rod and reel for about $127 and i got a pfluger echelon reel that is really smoth and handles big fish well. i got a shimono clarus and it has got 10 line guide and it cast very well .. they were were both seperate cuse i buy things sepperate so i can get the feel i want from both iteams so i advise to do that. the rod was around $57 and the reel was around $57 and then the rest was for tax. this is a premo set up for the money and is well worth it

If you spend more than $20-30 on fishing gear you are only scamming yourself! Fish are smelling what's on the hook, not looking at what's in your hand!
