If you would have asked me this question a few years ago I would have said yes but,sadly now the team is well below standard.
Football now is all about Celebrities and money rather than the actual game and when we have idiots like Wayne Rooney with his temper tantrums representing the team thing will only get worse.

during this past World Cup i believe England had one of the best squads, as individual players. they have 0 team chemistry though. i would love to see them get better, i think Becks should be back on the team though, and the new manager is rubbish if you ask me.
On current form, no. Potentially, yes.
They need to start playing as a cohesive unit - it's not about specific tactics, as all the individual players are sufficiently skilled to adapt to different styles of play.
The current problem is one of turmoil - with the loss of the old coach and the talisman captain, there will be a period of re-establishing roles and team unity. The situation would be helped by strong leadership from the coach (which isn't going to happen any time soon) and a lower level of expectation (like that's going to happen).
So they're going to be crap for a little while longer - at least until somebody like Rooney or Terry gets hold of the dressing room by the scruff of the neck and kicks some passion and belief back into them.

with no team chemistry we still got to a penalty shoot-out in the Quarter Finals of the world cup.so yeah theres potential for them to be a good team, its just management that lets us down. Sven playing 1 i repeat 1 up front in attack??? thats management failure!! another reason also is he had the pick of some great forwards..and chose a 17yr old who's never played a full game in the Premiership, took him and didnt even play him, even after Michael Owen got injured (why take him) i agree that most of the best well known players didnt perform from most nations.(ronaldinho).i agree with Spencer D..i'd pick Gerrard over lampard, since lampard had his chance, though gerrard didnt play well he scored twice in the world cup.
They could be if they got themselves sorted out. They have some decent players who just need to work better together.
england have a set of good players but as yet they are not a good team. i am not necessarily convinced that the problem is at the managerial level. rather, i think that it is the players who let themselves down. maybe the demands of playing for the top clubs these days are just too great for the players to be able to lift themselves for internationals as well. in addition, perhaps the players think they are better than they actually are. certainly, during the recent world cup, i thought the performances of all the "big" nations (all of whom draw their players from the top european clubs) were disappointing.
NO all the passion has gone ther is no pride in it anymore the only pay they should recieve is the willingness to put on the shirt, if these are the best we can put out then mabee we should start playing tiddlewinks, because what they are playing is not proffesional football the question is how much do they get paid and for what, I see better football games on the park on a sunday played by kids who just want to play, not how much are you going to pay me to play, I thought it might change with macllaren incharge bu allas its the same s**t

We have possibly the best bunch of players of any international team. That's the difference others squads play as a team we don't. Also Gerrard and lampard are too similar he needs to play one or the other its no bigger a decision than dropping beckham was.

NO!!, every tournement since 66 you always get the same comment "this is englands best chance since 66", no its not, cause ever since 66 we have had players that are supposed to be world class but bottle it at every championship, world class players become world class cause they take there club form to international level and we havent done that at all except in 1990 and 1996 which i think we was unlucky both times, it wasnt cause we was ****

I think-that's the joke of the year!!:-)))) they have good players but thay don't know how to play as a team,thay are overrated and overpaid,playing just for money not for a victory,playing without passion for a play,without thayre hearts,always are arogant,before every game thay tell how they will win but after losing the game thay are too arogant and shaimed to say how actualy was good the other team.It's not the rule that you must have a good individuals to have a good team,just look at for exsample Greece representacion-they don't have some "popular"players but they work good as a team and they won Euro 2004.The same think is with the teams that England coudn't win this days-Croatia and Macedonia.
