English people act brainwashed when England football team play in world cup,why not accept you are a joke?
Yes I am Scottish but that means nothing in this case, stop making a fool of yourself.Last win was in 1966!.We have five million population, you have over fifty million.
Answers:
Why do you even care? Let them make fools of themselves if they want to.
umm... remind us again when you won?!
its the taking part that counts, not the winning!
English people like being patriotic when the football is on and it's the only time we are allowed to be in this messed up country.
Give us a break sweaty
you call us brainwashed, i call it passion, we love our country, like you love yours, the difference being, most english would like to see scotland do well at a championships (unlikley to happen soon tho), but the scottish just want us to lose at everything.
Yes we do go over the top (and the songs released dont help), but i love to see it, as it is one of the only things that gets the country united (which is nice to see - every 2 years) instead of moaning about each other, we get caught in a grip of euphoria.
I say, keep it up englishman and woman (of any race or culture). and maybe if the scottish werent so worried about what we were doing, they would do better themselves. (gonna get some thumbs down for this one. lol)
ha ha that's good.
And they invented hooligans too.
FORZA ITALIA!
I am English and completely agree. Our national team are an absolute joke.
Our managers have no flair at all. Our Sun readers keep going on about how we need an English manager who understands the English way of playing. HELLLOOOOOO! We are not successful because of our English game.
We need Latin Flair. We need passion and we need players who are not primadonnas and are scared to chip their fingernails in case they lose that Chanel modelling contract.
Our footballers are a joke.
One final rant, Crouch, honestly, what a gangly, awkward, can only handle 1 touch of the ball before he ties himself in a knot muppet.
He needs a perfect ball to be able to score, he is too unwieldy to be creative.
You have just watched Braveheart again haven't you.
If the SNP get their way Scotland will become independant, we (England) won't pay for your up keep and you'll get grants from the UN because your a third world country. That aside at least England has a remote chance of winning something whereas Scotland..lets be honest should not really be in any competion
I am English, some of the supporters are a joke not all?
OI OI There is nothing wrong with being patriotic, lets face it its the only time us english get chance to get the flags out,as we are banned from flying it any other time because of this nanny state we are living in,and id like to point out that the scottish team are,,,in the words of allan hanson "very very poor"
I already have accepted that we have very little chance of winning. On paper it would look like we're got the squad to do it. Robinson, cole, Terry, Ferdinand, Hargreaves, Lampard, Gerrard, Cole, Owen, Thug. All of which are either at great clubs, or are good enough to arouse interest from the likes of Real Madrid etc. What doesnt help our cause is that put that team together and they cant play together. For some reason everybody thinks taht by making number 2 the boss everythings gooing to be different. But its still the same players for him to choose from. I admire the fact that he saw that beckham is crap and dropped him because of it, not kept him on because he was sucked in by the media hype. I think maclaren can make the team better, by better squad selection (world cup, taking walcott and not playing him even when 2 others are injured or just coming back from injury. Plus crouch is crap. I dont care how many goals he gets, hes rubbish. I dont know figures but if you do a goal conversion: Chances ratio it wouldnt be that impressive. Everyone seems to think hes good in the air because hes tall, but fact is he hasnt got the physical presence or power to hold off defenders, hence why his headers go wanting. I would give Lennon a starting position up the right, because he is an incredible talent. Hes got the pace and skill that we need on the wings. Stop making a big deal about rooney. World cup he wasnt fit enough to go. End of question. Even if he gets teh go ahead from the doctors hes still not played for months. Take Defoe, because hes a more than able substitute.
The only joke around here is you and your stupid question.
Mmmm cant remember Scotland ever winning ANY major trophy let alone the World Cup!
Population has nothing to do with it mate, Stop worrying about other nations teams and concentrate on your own because they need all the help and support they can get, If you had a team of 5 million you still wouldnt win.. what does that tell you huh?
bravo! braveheart!
wat do u care
It's true that the team of relatively poor players (with one or two exceptions) which represents England in international competitions is not very successful. But it's the only one that the country has, hence, when the team plays supporters give it their full backing. All teams, even the always weak Scotland, have the dream of winning something substantial; indeed, if they did not have such a desire, teams would be beaten before they ran onto the pitch.
So the fact that England supporters are, in your words "brainwashed." (and there is some truth in your observation, but I think the media are to blame as much as anything), is surely understandable. It is, as some Answerers have already stated, one of the few occasions when a high proportion of the population of England is united in a patriotic way. That is surely a good thing, is it not?
But what astounds and puzzles many of us is why the Scots are so adamant in their anti English attitude when England is the only team left in a competition. There is no logical reason for this behaviour. If it anything to do with ancient history then it's time the Scots grew up into mature members of the UK.
However, when Scotland plays in any competition, where England has been knocked out, the miserable, dour unsporting footbal fans north of the border can always depend on the despised sassanachs for full bodied support!
NB Having said all that, I have to confess that I actually dislike 'soccer' with its prima donna, overpaid, not very good, whimpish exponents. I always played and still support Rugby. Much more civilised!
As a spectator at a Calcutta Cup match between Scotland and England, at Twickenham a few years ago, I sat with a fellow Englishman amongst a large group of Scottish supporters. Despite the fact that England played well enough all through the game to make the outcome obvious, the Scots joked with and at us, took our reciprocal ribbing in good spirit, shared their 'flasks'(!) congratulated us on 'our' win, and were friendly in their behaviour both in the stands and on the transport back into central London.
It is sad that such spirit is not found amongst Scottish association football supporters.
talking crap mr scot, your just venting your anger at being even worse than us, yes we may not do as well as we would like but we are a million times better than your pathetic excuse for a team. Sounds a lot like jealousy to me.
Last win was in '66, but when was scotland's last world cup appearance
Look idiot dont get jealous BUT we offered u that we play as "United Kingdom" but u idiots wont agree
SHUT UP! I LOVE MY COUNTRY! ENGLAND RULZ
agree with DAVID BECKHAM rocks this isnt ok !!!!
That is 1 more time than you!
No, no ,no England was a good team this last WC, there's no fooling around.
OK, calm down people. There still are more World Cups to go. Who knows? Maybe Brazil will possibly lose good players(hope not), and England or Scotland start to have better players?
piss off.
I don't really remember when was the last time when Scotland won the World Cup. There is nothing wrong with being patriotic, and I don't think that if we won last time in 1966 that mean that our team is a joke.
Because if you go into a major competition thinking you will lose, you've defeated yourself already. During France 98 I lived in Scotland, and in the morning, prior to the opening match (Brazil v Scotland) I saw more Scots wearing Brazil shirts than Scottish shirts. No one even considered that Scotland could win, and they were proven right. I do agree with you though, the current England team is a joke. Population has nothing to do with it. If so, why arent China the best team in the world?
How very dare you!
I think it is more that they want England to win. In fact, I remember Ally MacLeod saying that Scotland could win the world cup (can't remember if it was 78 or 82). I think that England had a good chance, providing they picked the right squad, but they did'nt. Also, Engalnd need to change their style of play. A team with plenty of skill will usually beat a team who relies on 'blood and guts', in the same way, a good boxer will usually beat a good fighter.
the english team lacks flair.
their games tend to be boring at times.
not like the brasilians and the spanish or the french.
but its the heart that counts, yeah?
