Aussies given OK to call Brits ''pom's''?

Australian cricket fans have been given the go-ahead to call british cricket fans pom's. Is this to be considered racist? who exactly gave them permission to call us a derogarotary term? after all their ancestors got kicked out of this country and sent to Australia (then just a penal colony) for illegal activitie's. if this is true then we should'nt we call black people *******, pakistani people paki's chinese chink's and whites rednecks etc. etc.?

please note that this is not my view i just want to know how people feel about it.

if the aussies can legally call us poms then...

convictconvictconvictconvictco. convictconvictconvictconvictco.
convictconvictconvictconvictco. convictconvictconvictconvictco. you bloody convicts
Is it still a derogatory term though? Has it not now become just an affectionate term?
I don't know any one that finds poms offensive, infact I love it.!

Come on now, we Brits have managed to label and offend the rest of the world. As Carlos Mencia would say, 'Tag ! - Your turn!'
stop being so politically boring. A pom is a pom, they can't help it and it's just the way it is. Have you never heard of friendly banter between rivals? It's normal and it's healthy.
We can call you Poms because we are white like you.
No wait! a lot of us are Asian, and a lot of you guys are Pakistani or West Indian. I guess Poms now come in a variety of colours, not just the traditional sun-burn red. Are you coming over to see the cricket?. Might catch up with you there U Pommy Bastard.
Deep down you know you love the term! For God's sake and the queen's (since God figures in the saving of her) Get ready to lose!!! Most of our best are your worst!
I dont think its offensive at all.
In Australia, that nickname was not created as a derogatory term. It doesnt mean any harm. Its a term made and used in a friendly humorous way.
If someone called me a chink and meant to be racist, i would be offended. However, if its just in the spirit of things, then i wouldnt. Depends on the situation really. So just dont think of it as a nationalist term. Its the product of a healthy rivalry really.
OK..but what can we call the Aussies.?.

Shouldn't THE AUSSIES really be Poms..Why?

.One theory is that, as the majority of early immigrants to Australia were British, it is rhyming slang for "immigrant" from a contraction of the word "pomegranate (Wiki).so that makes them & their decendants Poms.
Who cares mate!
Pom, Oz, Saffa and Kiwi are not insults, they are just shorthand descriptive terms for people from various countries.
I do not mind being called a pom, a limey, a cockney or a 'hetrosexual love stallion' :-) these are not offensive terms.
Paki, and chink are blanket terms for asian and 'indian' people and are generally used in an abusive context.
N*gger and redneck are almost always used in a derogatroy context.
aussies are never warned for their wrong deeds cuz they are preffered over other countries!
i hate aussies and all those who differenciate between blacks and whites!!
Its a term of affection, English people should love it. I can think of plenty of worse things to be called!
