I always consider Pele the greatest, but Pele never played in Europe. If Pele played against the big teams in Europe like Best did - it might be another story.

Its hard to make a comparison as he never got the chance to play on a world stage as Pele did. There isn't as much film footage of him playing as there is of Pele, although from what little I have seen, I think he showed more skillfull moments than Pele.

I had the good fortune to watch Bestie palying for United for a few years. When he was good, he was breathtaking - nobody was better. Unfortunately he was not as consistently good as Pele (who, of course, I only saw on TV). However, he had a better social life that Pele - that's for sure.
Pele has gone on record as saying that George Best was the greatest footballer that ever lived, as has Maradona. I'm happy to trust their judgement in this matter..

They were both good, but Pele was better. You are trying to compare a Rolls Royce and an Aston Martin here. They both have excellent qualities. It is a matter of personal taste as to which one you the prefer. The tradegy for Best was that he never got to parade his skills at a World Cup.

Some say yes and some say no. I'd say pele was a better footballer however they were all most equal in skill but one thing that I do like about pele was that with all the fame and glory he recieved he did not take it too far off the picth with serious drug or alcohol problems. He's a true role model for younger generations and he played football for the joy of playing football not for money or glamour.
