we fail is due to many reasons:-
long season- tired players and no time to recover
too much pressure from media (nowhere has the same)
managers are under pressure on/ off field where everything they do is scrutenised
we seem to commit the deadly sin of getting own player sent off, last 3 tournaments( i think) and that doesn't help
we have some of the best players in the world but was the tactics right? look now, no beckham, we score many goals under maclaren.
im optimistic but we don't need this pressure from the papers!

In regards to the last European cup and the World cup, I think the coaching was a big part. Okay didnt he learn that Rooney alone up front didnt work? or Gerrard and Lampard didnt play well together? And why did he bring on a defender for Lennon, an outfield player, with pK's so close?
It doesnt help either when the players are porr at PK's but at least Erikkson is gone.
Scotland? I don't remember seeing them in a tournament.
A good manager would help, just look at high flying Cardiff City no hopers at the beginning of the season all down to the manager and TEAMWORK.

The previous England manager was no where as good as what they pay him to get England to win any tournament. England players are treated like superstars, while they are all over-rated, except for a few. The players are over-confident and pampered by their clubs and the England manager. Most of the are too comfortable in their comfort zone and not afraid that they will be dropped by the England manager even though they played badly. The previous England manager only choose players with big ego and reputation and not a team who can win them games. Furthermore, the players are media friendly and often thinking of ways to make more money, like coming up with their autographies after the World Cup. So how can England win anything at all?
The new England manager is showing potential to beat that. But time will tell whether he is able to get the best out of them.
I'm Scottish and as a Scot I always cheer the underdog when Scotland are not involved, so maybe soon I'll be cheering England . The reason England don't win is because when it gets down to the nitty gritty they lose their bottle, or in Rooneys case head,. England are not as good as the English media think they are, I was watching a prog. on sky sports before world cup and 4 journos had come to the conclusion that England would make the semi-finals at least, cloud cuckoo land? I rest my case.
You should not believe your own HYPE.England are average at best . Bla bla bla.Some not to bad players and some think they are the bees knees.But when it comes to the nitty gritty ,they are AVERAGE.

They have a mental block with winning because they have lost out so many times after being built up by the media.
The question should not be justified or given credit to a continually poor national England Soccer team, by critisising smaller populated nations.
I think Sir Trevor Brooking is probably the most honest English former player to still be involved with the FA, and even he was scathing in his views of the youth coaching set up and the poor development of the game in general in the country.
This is not helped by a very fickle media that build the team up to be World champions months in advance, torment and harass their most successful recent manager, Erickson, and immediately upon the teams inevitable failure tear them to pieces. The players are over-rated,
(Lampard ..World Class!?.. please.)..overpaid, arrogant and lazy. Add to that the constant stream of foreign players coming into the country are stifling the youngsters chances of coming through.
I'm all for Scotland but until we start qualifying for tournaments and winning games, best we refrain from "pom-bashing" - a practice officially sanctioned by the Government of Australia. C'mon mates let's hear ya, yer bunch of roo-shooters!
