Why is a triple strike in 10 pin bowling called a turkey?

well as i can recall many , many years ago a radio station was giving a turkey to any one who got three strikes in a row..during a promotion hence a "turkey" and it stuck that was way back in the 30's or 40's but i am sure there was other "myths" along with this one that are just a cute
because they are hard to catch
