1974: Lions Tour to South Africa and Rhodesia making 14 appearances (including all four tests as a centre) scoring a try against Eastern Transvaal in Springs and a drop goal in the 2nd test against the Springboks in Pretoria.
1977: Lions Tour to New Zealand and Fiji making 16 further appearances including all five tests against New Zealand (4) and Fiji, scoring three tries (two against Poverty Bay/East Coast in Gisborne and another versus North Auckland at Whangarei).

Wherever the Lions had been due to tour in 2005, Ian McGeechan would have needed no introduction. Having coached the team in New Zealand , South Africa and Australia , and played for it against the All Blacks and Springboks, he has a pedigree few can equal.
Playing a key role in the 2005 tour gives the Scotland Director of Rugby the chance to complete his set of Lions victories over their regular southern hemisphere foes.
McGeechan played in the unbeaten Lions who mauled the Springboks in 1974, and coached the side to victory over Australia in 1989 and South Africa in 1997. Only on his two visits to New Zealand - as a player in 1977 and coach in 1993 - has he come up empty, and even then by frustratingly narrow margins.
The former Headingley and Scotland centre appeared in eight Tests on his two playing tours, as well as the match against the Barbarians in the Queen's Silver Jubilee match of 1977.
He served two spells as Scotland coach - between 1988 and 1993, and from 1999 to 2003 - during which time he won a Grand Slam (1990) and a Five Nations Championship (1999), as well as guiding his country to the Rugby World Cup semi-final of 1991.
He is the only man to take charge of three successive Lions tours. The 2005 campaign will be his sixth in all.
