Years ago a Glaswegian was telling me in the pub one night about the greatest centre-half he'd ever seen play
Apparently he played for Celtic for a period back in the 70's in the same team as Dalglish, McGrain and Macari but, for some reason, lost interest in the game and retired early. For the life of me I can't remember his name. Any ideas? And was he as good and this fellah claimed or was it the beer talking??
Answers:
it is possible the player though not a centre half but a half-back(midfielder) is George Connelly who could possibly have become a celtic great but left football for no apparent reason
check on yahoo search about celtic football club history sure you will find answer there
Was it Roy Aitken?
jardine??
Definitely George Connolly, he was supposedly quite introverted and don't like being in the spotlight although there are other rumours why he quit.
I have vague recollection of seeing him playing ,by all accounts a classy player - the Scottish Kaiser.
