Can I use a normal Bike pump, with pressure gauge, for my rear (Fox) shock?
Answers:
Unfortunately no for 2 very good reasons, Firstly a normal bike pump wont generate enough pressure, but far more importantly shock pumps have special valves that allow you to remove them without losing any pressure, if you think how you lose a little air when removing a quick release pump, imagine how much you'd lose if the forks had 300psi in them (which is the high level indicated on my shock pump even though i never go higher than 195)
Wouldn't that be a bit painful?? ..
No, your rear shock requires a much higher psi than your normal bike pump. You need to buy a specific shock pump that any local bike shop carries, or you can also order from any on-line retailer.
Nope, you need this:

Yes you should buy a shock pump. A regular tire bike pump is good for high volume, low pressure and a shock pump is good for low volume, high pressure, and that is what you want. Good luck with it.
nope. unfortunatly you have to buy a separate pump for forks and rear shocks. thats just a marketing gimmick that gets us customers to pay more for out equipment. good news: a descent pump will cost around $30, not too bad. if you do consistent riding styles, just have your bike shop pump it to your preference. i had them pump my fork for me several months ago and i havnt done anything to it since then. if its to stiff, you can always let some air out by using you fingernail.
