How can the USA have a 'world series" when they are the only ones who enter?
baseball, a large following in the states, so how can they hold a world series when nobody else in the world can take part?
Answers:
The term world series was coined when the USA was the only country where modern baseball was played. The term remains after all these years. IN actuality, American baseball does attract the world's best players now, and is justly named. Teams are multi ethnic and racial from all over the world more and more.
I know. That confused me too.
canada have won it with the blue jays
because as far as the United States are concerned they are the world
Good question
because nobody else really exists outside the US ;) US foreign policy is to tell the rest of the world how they should act.
Well, it is reported that it originates from a newspaper sponsorship in the early days (the paper was The World), but this is a myth. Personally i think it's just good old American arrogance.
thought this question was boring when you asked it the other day, still think its boring, " taxi "
well actually the Canadians are also involved. You have heard of the Toronto Blue Jays right? and if you actually look at the rosters for most teams there aren't actually that many Americans on the Teams they are mostly filled with Dominicans, Cubans, Japanese, Korean, Mexican, Canadian, etc..
stupid question thats been asked b4.
would you like to be surrounded, by that many americans, of that intelligence, all touting beers, and hotdogs, if you were from say russia. hell no...
oh are there other places besides the US?
that's true,it's not a world series, it's a states series!
otherwise they would lose.
baseball?
give the balls to pakistan!
i'm confused with that too. NYC (home of the Yankees and Mets) is the center of the universe and everything outside of it is just crap. If its played in Yankee stadium or Shea they should refer to it as the universe series, if not they should call it crappy series.
Ask yourself how can 32 countries get together for a World Cup of soccer.
I have read over some of the other answers...
I believe it is because baseball was invented in this country by a gentleman named Doubleday. Hence the term America's game. When the World Series started being played there where no other countries playing baseball but us.Since Canada plays now they are eligible to be in it if they make it .I do understand Japan has baseball now but there rules are different and they do not play aggressive baseball as it should be played. I do believe Japan has their own World Series of baseball Japanese style. To be completely honest with you I don't know what other countries in the world are playing baseball now if any. I would rather think that if these other countries are playing baseball professionally and playing like the Japanese with their own form of rules they would not qualify to participate in our World Series ( the original ). I would rather think that if these other countries wanted to participate in our (the original) World Series they would play baseball by the originating country of baseball. We didn't invent the game of soccer but we play it in our country and play it by the rules as it is played elsewhere in the world. The same can be said of Hockey and other sports as well.
WooHoo...Go Toronto. I miss having a second team in Canada. I wish the Expos had stayed in Montreal. I hope that the World Series will expand in the future.
I'd say that the inagural World Baseball Classic was a success. I hope that it continues to be a success and that something can be worked out so we can one day have a real World Series.
Been asked several time, but Canadian teams do take part, so it's not quite a one country world championship.
because most of the best players in the world that play baseball are playing in MLB
well if you think about it we have players from all over the world so we have the best
actually there is one team in canada, the blue jays that can participate but otherwise it doesn't make a whole lot of sense
Canada is the cloest country
