Cyclists. should they be fair game?

dunno if this is just a uk thing but arent cyclists annoying? not your average joe on a bike but the so called proffesionals! When i was a kid i was told no more than two side by side was dangerous, but put a ridiculously looking helmet on guys, some puke inducing spandex and they think they can take the road over - they almost take the entire side of the road over. i drive as close as i can to them to hopefully scare them. As yet i have never met a non cylcist who disagrees. And us car drivers always beat you anyway so neh neh neh na na!
rant over.

Answers:
cyclists are legally allowed on the road. so your saying you want to hit them is a criminal statement in every sense. i hope it is just an attempt to be funny. although a lame one.

on a personal note.. i bet you are a total lard-*** just waiting to have a heart attack. anyone w/ such ill will to other people exercising has got to have some serious problems w/ a healthy lifestytle in general. here is to hoping you change your opinions and your lifestyle before that heart attack gets you. a life is a terrible thing to waste.
I thought folks in the UK had some semblence of intelligence. Reckon I was wrong. No wonder ya'll lost the War.
They should be fair game only if they take over the road in puke-inducing spandex

and yes, it happens in the us

I mountain bike so i agree - many cyclists think they are above everyone else, when all they do is take up room

I apologize to any non-conceited and non-offensive cyclists, a few ruin it for them all
I am so pissed off with cyclists that ride in the middle of the lane in London, and traffic lights, well they don't mean a f*****g thing to cyclists!!
I agree wholeheartedly, I prefer the "shooting the gaps" method while squeling my truck tires in between em; but yes any self-respecting male that wears little spandex outfits while riding his bicycle down the stree with 30 of his spandexclad cronies surrounding him is deserving of being flattened, its not like they're going anywhere, why not just get an excersise bike and put a fan in front of it, so they can act like the hamsters that they are.
I'm a semi-pro cyclist and it pisses me off when then posers don't go by the rules of the road. That being said, hitting some showoff can land your sorry-*** in the slammer. It's simply not worth it. And we cyclists may be skinny (for the most part) but a number of us carry defensive weapons just in case. Some ******** hit me a couple of years ago and the next week was on the wrong end of a lawsuit. The decision bought me a crapload of new things. So just drive on or better yet, get your fatass on a bike and start riding.
you need to stop driving if you dont have respect for them, you could end up killing someone.
It's a shame people haven't learned tolerance for all users of the road. I've found the rest of Europe to be quite accepting of cyclists, and even with smaller roads and more traffic, I've had fewer problems riding in Europe than I ever had in the US. By the way, swerving toward a cyclist is aggravated assault in the US. I'm sure the UK has some similar variation.
The problem is of course that all cyclist get a bum rap because of the action of a few. I've been out solo on a three lane road and less than a foot from the curb & get buzzed by motorists. There was plenty of room for them to go around, but yet the went out of their way to harrass a cyclist who was obeying the traffic laws. You give some people a motor vehicle & a DL and they get a king of the road attitude. Thankfully there are lots of considerate motorists who will give cyclists a break. Yeah I've been hit, failure to yield right of way on the motorist (I was even on the shoulder).
Wow, you are an idiot.
There's something wrong with someone who would make a statement like this. You sound like a tried and true southern born Redneck that doesn't have a DL and doesn't even know what it is but thinks he owns the roadways anyway.

Too admit too driving as close to a cyclist to scare them and possibly run someone off the road and cause injury, shows just how intelligent you are, but what could I expect from someone who can't spell professional.

I have alot of respect for someone that can get off there fat behind and ride a road bike forty or fifty miles in a day, and riding with a helmet and spandex shorts only shows how intelligent a cyclist is and you would know that if you knew there purpose which apparently you do not.

So from the sounds of the statement that was made we have someone who know nothing about the sport of cycling, and just likes to cause trouble for people, I pity you.

After further review of added posting and not to defend icrashalot's post although I did give it a good rating, but for you Mr.Simmons too make the statement you should be allowed to just give em enough of a nudge to put em in a ditch, you to should have your head examined for common sense because it's clear you have none.

Oh and one other thing the three lane roads in this state as in most are legal for cyclist, infact most but not all have bike lanes. Again I see someone with a DL that doesn't need one.
So, just trying to rile us cyclists up?

What an idiot.

Get a life.

Yeah, if cyclists are not obeying the rules, they should be ticketed, not killed, ok?
I started cycling about 2 months ago and cycle around 20-40 miles a week, and although I try to stick to off-road, cycle paths and quieter roads - the main roads are unavoidable sometimes. I try to always let drivers pass me but only when it is safe for them to do so.

About a week ago I was in this situation - the driver overtook me and then was waiting for me up the road. From the safety of his car he shouted obscenities and when he finally let me explain that I didn't let him pass because I could hear a JCB coming round the corner and would of resulted in a big accident - he apologised.

It really pisses me off, because I think the reason he got so angry was because he had runs-ins with other cyclists with a lot more road-attitude than me.

Not all cyclists are bad, just be patient for 30 more seconds and we will let you pass!
I'm pretty sure the law states that cyclists should ride single file however how many so called 'professional' cyclists do that? The answer NONE!! They ride side by side in two's or three's and block the road for all other motorists.

Personally I don't mind cyclists when on their own but when they do this in groups you should be allowed to just give em enough of a nudge to put em in a ditch. They would soon learn to ride sinle file again.

As for icrashalot's comment about being buzzed by motorist on a road with 3 lanes..this is normally called a motorway and as far as I was aware cyclist are not allowed to ride on motorways!!
