How does an air hockey puck stick to the table?
just want to know how does the puck in a game of air hockey, stick to the table without flying off evry two minutes. i know its on a bed of air, but what helps it stick to the table so well??
Answers:
The only way an object can get lift is by having curves on the object or on the object it collides with. Since it is a flat sided puck hitting a flat sided paddle, the puck only goes sideways and the air cushion keeps it lifted off of the table. If the puck was not flat or the paddle was angled on the sides, the puck would fly off of the table all of the time.
gravity
It doesn't stick to the table! It just floats, as you said, on a cusion of air. That's it. Gravity does the rest. If it stuck to the table, you wouldn't be able to play.
magic!
i suppose there's some kind of device underneath it that kinda sucks it to the table, same as gravity would normally.
never heard of ai hockey before though, so i can't actually be sure, but that's what i'd do!
