john fashnu was the only gay footballer ever to 'come out' but he got so much stick from homophobic fans he comitted suicide in a lock-up and no other top footballer has done so. im sure theres loads at there but they dont want to say so due to the fear of this repeating.
Maybe there's quite a few - but being the UK, they are indeed right to keep it to theirselves. I can only remember Justin Fashanu (.not John, Ben H.) at Norwich. It wasn't the fact that he was gay, but he was also black - which was a double-whammy for the ultimately moral and correct press in the early eighties.known as the red-top right-wing newspapers.
