Is it just me or has football become boring and a game for wimps? At least in the top flight anyway.?

I'm now quite ancient, hence I can recall football players being paid a mere £20 a week - but, boy, could they be entertaining! When they headed a leather ball on a rainy day, it was like heading a cannonball - yet they played on without histrionics, but with immense pride. And there was very little 'acting injured' either, unlike today when, after rolling around six times after an opponent merely touches them the modern player lies there as if poleaxed. Yet they're supposed to be superfit athletes! In former days, Association Football was seen as a proper man's game, on par with the nation's Rugby teams - which is probably why England won the World Cup in 1966.
Today's prima donnas, who cry when they lose, who cry when they are sent off, who throw their boots all over the ground when substituted, who commit truly dreadful fouls (and yet protest their innocence, not realising - because some are so dozey - that their every move is captured on video), who argue with, and even on occasions actually attack referees, are still getting paid more in one week than most people earn in three years of proper work. Yet these players are frequently second rate compared with many S American and even some African players. UK World Cup teams over the past 20 years makes that point clearly
Despite now being professional, Rugby Union and Rugby League are still _the_ men's games. So at least we still can watch sportsmen who are proper men, who play not just for the money but because they actually have pride in their game and have a will to win.
You can take it that I agree with you!
Trust me its just you..
Don't know which matches you have been watching. I've seen some nice matches. And no way is it for wimps.
yeah it kinda has.
I don't know. There are too many sides going defensive too often this year. That does make for a boring match. But still, there does seem to be more parity (except for Chelsea of course) which makes for a more exciting chase up the table.
Let's see you out there, bro.
Welcome to old age (and no nicking my place in the bus pass queue)
now, now that's a little provocative! On the other hand, where else can you go to work, earn tens of thousands of pounds a week, practice ballet and panto, not deliver the goods yet still keep your job (and more often than not, your place in the national side)?
After Forest payed 1 million pounds for Trevor Francis, the game was a buiseness not not a sport.!!
and now US LOYAL FANS have to pay to make the players RICHER,because all the players from outside of THE UK say they cant live on there wages(eg Michael Ballack 140,000 pound a week)
Bring back the 70's and early 80's.THAT WAS FOOTBALL!!!
Have a nice weekend
Body, it's just you.
Yes it has, they fall over if they get breathed on, bunch of overpaid tarts.
Nah, I won't go that far. It certainly has lost some spirit from the players and the fans as well, but it's not boring, nor is it a game for wimps. I love football and I enjoy every minute that I watch of it. There's still some flame of passion buring within each player and fan, they're just letting other things get in the way of that. But football is football, and I love it.
I do agree to an extent.I hate the diving,play-acting,wildly celebrating penalty awards, all those things are spoiling the game.
spot on mate you cant even tackle them now besty got kicked to death but he just got up and put the ball in the net its a mans game so lets get men to play it not a bunch of softys who get 50 to 100 000 a weekwhen men played they got 3 pound besty onlygot about 1000
