What do you think of referee standards at local league level?
i play in north leics (sat) and charnwood sunday league and standards are pretty poor in my opinion 9 bookings and a game ruined on sun when it was a well contested game
Answers:
it is about the same standard as all the other leagues c**p too many bookings at all levels!
Generally speaking, a ref is only as good as the players let him. As a ref in the local league and an ex player and qualified football coach to a high level, I find that the biggest problem are players who THINK they know the laws of the game. I have listened to some of the the tripe offered by so called pundits, especially Andy Gray, having looked at incidents from a dozen angles and still get a decision wrong. I believe that most players are annoyed not because they think a ref is wrong, but because they just don't like the decision. At a local level a ref has to take into account the apparent lack of skill, fitness and stamina by the amateur player and how they try to play the game and try to protect players who only play for fun. Even at the highest level referees get it 'wrong' even with assistants, so have a bit of consideration for the guy in the middle on the the public park who is mostly in it because of his love for the game. Just remember, without us the game would die.
wwell i ref and play in local leagues so, i don't think that the standard is bad. I have heard of other games where its been horrendus(sp?) but I consistently get between 80 and 95 out of 100 for reffing and I have only once or tweice had a crud qualified ref.
with out the man or women in the middle you wont be able to play a game be it a fully qualified ref or the team manager/coach they are all human beings as are you players always think that they are right and don't like being told its a free kick or that they have committed a foul and would you stand in the middle with the whistle and take the criticism that that the refs take i doubt it all the foul and abusive language thrown at them by supposedly other human beings doubt it very much why don't you try becoming a referee and see what its like out their in the middle ON YOUR OWN AND NO ONE TO BACK YOU UP LIKE THE OTHER 10 PLAYERS ON YOUR TEAM ?
