Do you ever ge the compulsion to open your car door when passing cyclists and knock them off their bikes?
I would hope common sense would prevail and you never acted upon these compulsions, but who gets the thought?
Answers:
No, but cyclists always seem to get the compulsion to ride into my car door when I open it.
No, but I have the compulsion to kick the driver's window through when I pass a car on my bike.
nope, can't say i ever have but i'm sure i will think about this next time i see one.
Nope. But I kicked some b*tch's mirror off the side of her Saab last summer after she cut me off and then deliberately swerved at me several times.
No, but I often feel like going behind one at the red lights and giving the cyclist a nudge foreward just to see them wobble.
About anyone who has ever been held up by a cyclist, or seen one doing something stupid has probably had the thought cross their minds. Hopefully everyone has enough good sense not to do it. Since I ride a bike myself and, living in a very small community, don't bother with all the proper protective gear, I try to give cyclist as much room as possible. The thought has crossed my mind, as I'm sure it has crossed the minds of drivers passing me. I've never done it, and so far noone has bothered me. Honesty isn't always popular, but its still the best policy.
Your question made me laugh out loud. Yes I've had the thought but never taken it up; I hope I never do.
I have squirted water at cyclists through the window when passing on the road, though. I was 17 and just bought a water gun. I hadn't reckoned on the traffic lights though, and the cyclist had his own water bottle - my window was open!
The only ones who make me angry are the prats who ride at night with no light. They deserve everything they get.
Like you said, common sense prevails, but I do fume when I see cyclists wobbling down the middle of the road.Once I was driving along minding my own business when a cyclist rode into the side of my car.She left a massive scratch down my car and then rode off without as much as a sorry!I called the police who said they couldn't do anything because cyclists aren't obliged to have insurance. They also advised me to be on my guard because she might try and sue me for injuries!Does that stink or what?
Last guy who did that to me got a face full of pepper spray ! Bet he won't do that again.
This is the only non-serious question you've ever asked that I'm going to answer seriously.
I never even think about it - by brother is a serious cyclist - rides in Boston. And assholes do this sort of thing with car doors on purpose and try to run him off the road all the time. Stupid f.uckers. All I can say is that I hope there's such thing as Karmic payback.
i dont have those problems, but sometimes i do feel like keying someones car or putting a dent in it if they are acting like an *** just because my bike looks better than their car.
there are a lot of haters in my area. they beep at me when im already on the side of the road, or some retards throw bottles, lighters, and other crap at me. one guy actually swerved into the lane i was riding, beeped, and yelled at me. wtf?
i dont drive yet but there are lots of idiots wanting to drive there cars as close to you when your riding your bike to make you go of the road bicyclist and drivers dont mix i was hit by a car because some one wanted to beat the light it hert and then my freind ran into a car it was all the guys falt these people dont look both ways dont pay attention to whats going on around them so thats when somthing happens to there car
Nah, having put a few thousand miles on a bike I give them all the room they need. The quickest way to get your @ss kicked is to endanger the life of someone who's adrenaline is already high from the ride. Trust me.
Since I ride to train for my other sport, martial arts and am in training for my 3rd degree black belt. If I see you about to do it and anticipate and evade the door, or you do it and I hit it and survive (highly likely unscathed and very very mad because like I said taking falls in martial arts since about 1979).
Then I pity you.
Think for a moment and amaze us all, often super fit cyclist vs. you the fat lazy out of shape couch spud. My money's on the cyclist.
But more important is this:
Opening your door on a cyclist (called 'dooring') is a crime. Opening a door on anyone is a crime.
The law states that you, the driver are responsible when you open your door to make sure the path is clear whether it's a cyclist, motorcycle or another driver.
Any damage or injury caused, it's on you.
That includes the damage caused if I evade your door with a needed sudden move and a driver has to brake or move to evade me and a crash is caused..it's on you.
That being said there are cyclists who do not ride responsibly for sure.they..are..not.me.
I and the vast majority of cyclists obey the traffic laws and ride predictably. There are drivers who drive like jerks too. If you're a good driver you should be able to avoid an object about 2' by 6' wide ya think? If you can't why not turn in your license and take the bus.
Using your car as a weapon against an "unarmed" cyclist, you must be pretty weak powerless individual.
Doesn't everybody know that your car supposed to be used as a weapon instead of a mode of transportation. Of course, it's almost always a white guy in a pickup truck, which is curious considering I'm white myself. I suppose that these morons believe that anyone who doesn't think and act exactly as they do should be exterminated. Hey - let's send them off to Iraq where they might do some good, or at least to get rid of them.
