Who is the all time greatest manager thats ever managed in the english football leagues?

Answers:
That honour must go to Brian Clough, who had magnificent success with two different small clubs (neither of whom have done anything since he left). He also crafted journeymen footballers into first class teams. All this without massive financial assisstance.
Bill Shankley
The one and only BIll Shankley. (I'm not a Liverpool supporter).
clough was the all time master no doubt!!
Clough, greatest manager never to get the england job, consistantly good at several levels for many different clubs.
me!! my pro team shine united
Bill but Ferguson has also tried (am neither supporter),..arsenal is my club
Bill Shankley
Without a doubt the GREAT Ron Greenwood,
Father of the modern game..
shankley
Brian Clough, took unfashionable small clubs, Derby and Nottm Forest, won the top league with both and 2 european cups with forest.
paisley, shankley, clough, ferguson, nickleson but my favourite for his passion and spirit Bobby Robson
Difficult to say different age gaps here so for me maybe Bill Shanky or the genre from that era.
Barry Fry! Ha ha ha!!
It can only be Fergie - he has been at United 20-odd years and has pulled them so many cups it's untrue. Secondly, he's kept the club at a top position through many many seasons.

Really - there is no competition considering how the fitness and the level of play have increased since previous generations. He's keeping the club at the top through extremely competitive times. The premiership has never been so saturated with international talent, and yet he leads the team to astonishing victories with 'home-boys' time after time.

He deserves his knight-hood. and much respect in terms of football management.
Arsene Wenger..no-one else comes close
Alex Ferguson to date has won 25 major trophies since his time as Man U manager. They included 8 league titles and 2 major european trophies. He has also been awarded manager of the year 6 times.
Bob Paisley won 21 major trophies with Liverpool. They included 6 league titles and 3 European Cups (Champion's League) and 1 UEFA Cup. He was also awarded manager of the year 6 times.
But i would have to say Paisley was the better manager, due to the fact he won the top European trophy 3 times, and the fact he won all those trophies in a 9 year spell at Liverpool. Ferguson is at United 20 years and counting..
brian clough
Bob Paisley
Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United - the best of all times
without a doubt arsene wenger
Herbert Chapman (Arsenal & Huddersfield)
king kev[kevin keegan] def.signed r greatest player[alan shearer]
people said he spent alot of money money and tats y we done well but so did al r other managers and look how did they spent it.10.5m on luque ur havin a laugh.bring back kev
fergie
Bill Shankly
brian clough like fergie at united has inspired many of his ex-players to go in2 management, God bless them both for Martin O'niell & Gordon Stachan. but Cloughy wins it 4 me.
arsene.. he revolutionized the english football like no other manager and did that without much money.. he can spot a raw talent at 16 or 15 and mould him suitably..
its Arsene Wenger,Jose Murinho and then Sir Alex ferguson
Bob Paisley won 6 Championships and 3 European Cups while in charge at Liverpool. He gets my vote. How many other present or future managers of English clubs will win 3 European Cups? Alex Ferguson and Brian Clough deserve a mention too.
the late Bill Shankley & Brian Clough.
A very good question with no easy answer.
I will give you a few (in no order).

1. Herbert Chapman - Led Huddersfield to 3 successive titles in the early 20s and led Arsenal to 2 successive titles in the early 30s. He left because of some differences, but the Gunners did managed to win the 3rd title in a row. The first true great manager of the English game. Much of his tactics would be employed by other successful title winning managers.

2. Sir Alf Ramsey - Often associated with his World Cup success, but had he not led Ipswich from the 3rd division to the League title in 1962, he would not have gotten the job. It was an improbable triumph, but such was his tactical briliiance which be seen on the World stage.

3. Sir Matt Busby - Led United to 3 titles in the 50s and after the tragedy of the Munich Air Disaster, rebuilt the team that would win the title again in 1965 and 1967, and achieve immortality in 1968 when they beat Benfica to become the first English winners. Not only did they win, they played very good football. Under Busby, players like Best, Law and Charlton flourished.

4. Bill Shankley - Brought Liverpool out of the 2nd division in 1959 and turned them into the force that would win record titles. His tactics, brashness and backroom management methods, would lay the foundations of a Liverpool dynasty.

5. Bob Paiseley - Shanks took Liverpool to the pinnacle, but Paiseley was the one who kept them there. 3 European Cup triumphs (unmatched since), 5 League titles and 2 League Cups are a testament to his contribution to English football.

6. Brian Clough - The youngest ever manager in League football at 29, he led Hartlepool to promotion and Derby Co to the 2nd Division title in 1969. He would go 1 better in 1972, when the Rams upset the odds to become League Champions. Cloughie had an eye for good players and was a firm believer in passing football.
He fell out with the Derby Board and was sacked after just 44 days at Leeds becuase of player mutiny. Licking his wounds at unfashionable Nott'm Forest, he would clinch promotion in 1977. Amazingly, that team with no known stars, would blaze through the top flight and win the title with amazing ease. Along the way, they would set a record of 42 games unbeaten, whch took an excellent Arsenal nearly a generation to break.
Clough would go one better, winning the European Cup twice in 1979 and 1980 with Forest. It would be him that made players like Tony Woodcock, Peter Withe, Trevor Francis, Martin O Neill, Viv Anderson and John Robertson household names. Under Clough, Forest would also win 4 League Cups but could secure the one trophy that eluded him, the FA Cup.
Besides Chapman and until Dalgish in 1995, he is one of those managers who led 2 different clubs to the title. However, more remarkable is his triumph because he did not have the finacial means to create a Championship winning side.

7. Joe Fagan - Taking over from Paiseley, Fagan would become the first manager to win the Treble in 1984. Liverpool coasting to League, League Cup and that remarkble night in Rome, when they outwitted Roma to win the 4th European title. Sadly, the events of Heysel would force Fagan into retirement.

8. Howard Kendall - Living under the great shadow of Liverpool, Kendall took an Everton side that was near bottom in December 1983 to the FA Cup in May. It would get better as a masterly side led by the outstanding Andy Gray would replace Liverpool as League Champions and win the Cup Winners Cup. Only a Norman Whiteside goal would deny them the Treble. Everton would again win the title but denied a chance to be crowned European Champions because of Heysel.

9. Kenny Dalgish - Led Liverpool to the Double in his first year and the team would continue to dominate the League together with Everton. After leaving them, he would resurface at Blackburn and lead them to an unlikely triumph as League Champions in 1995, thwarting the Man Utd juggernaut. Joins Clough and Chapman, as the only 3 managers so far to win titles with 2 clubs.

10. Sir Alex Ferguson and 11. Arsene Wenger, I don't need to elaborate, their successes are in the present and everyone knows what they have achieved and could still yet achieve.

Honourable mentions for Don Revie at Leeds, Harry Catterick at Everton, Bill Nicholson at Spurs, Stan Cullis at Wolves, Bertie Mee at Arsenal and Dave Mackay at Derby.

BUt my choice would Clough, followed by Paiseley and Sir Alex.
