What is the best lubricant for a bike chain?

Answers:
One of best lubricant out there is ProLink Chain Lube. I see others are saying WD 40, I personally wouldn't use it on a bike chain because it tends to evaporate leaving you with very little lubrication.

WD 40 is an excellent cleaner to clean your chain with but that's about its extent and after you're done with cleaning you need lube with something else.

Remember it's the rollers inside the chain that need lubrication not the outside of the chain. So many people tend to believe that once the chain is oily that's all that's required and that would be completely wrong.

If your interested in cleaning your chain before lubing, try diesel fuel, it works great, it's cheap and it is an oil base product and will not hurt your chain or gears. Oh and remove the parts before cleaning.
grease
A light oil is good, but if you want something as bit more resilient try Silicone Grease.
home oil
KY
wd 40. Its light and dries quickly so it doesn't attract dirt
splash some ky on the beatch
A mix of mieral oil and petroleum
WD40
Motor oil.

Sewing machine oil.
wd 40 it disperses water and is silicone based
wd 40 as it lubricates well it repels water (very important to avoid rust)
Pro Link and Triflow are the slickest chain lubes I've used.
You should be looking at some of those aerosol waxy type lubricants. The wax forms a protective film and keeps dirt out, prolonging chain life.

WD40 is NOT a lubricant, it is a cleaner!! don't use it on a chain for goodness sake.
i using the White Lightning 'self cleaning' lubricant as it more cleaner than oil and best of all, it self clean the chain after off road.
Try a little Pedro's on it and see how it works for ya.
look for one with teflon
watever you do DONT USE WD-40 it attracts soo much dirt its not even funny. use triflow its better and it lubes ur chain soo much better
Finish Line teflon-based lubricant is the best I've found. It goes on wet but eventually dries to a waxy slick film. ProLink is good but it remains "wet". TriFlow teflon oil is good but it also stays "wet".
I use Pedro's Ice Wax and have had no problems with my chain. However I also wipe it down and re-lube at least every other ride. Whatever you do, DO NOT use WD-40, it will dry out your chain instead of lubing it.
Oh my gosh, what are these people putting on their chains?! Do NOT use grease or WD-40. Depending on the weather conditions, select either a wax lubricant (dry) or some sewing machine oil (wet). Super-lube's not bad, but a bit messy.
DO NOT USE WD40 all it will do is gunk your chain all to hell! Same with wax. Dirt will sit on those like no other and are very hard to get off. If you want a good chain lube Triflow is your best bet period. I have been racing BMX for over 10 years it is the ONLY chain lube I will use.
