Why do footballers (soccer players) touch the ground before coming on the pitch?

to make sure the grass is real
maybe its a ritual or good luck omen. not all players do it though. maybe its something to do with personally feeling the ground they're about to play on: get a feel for how hard/soft it is.
For superstitious reasons, probably.
sometimes because of religion. and sometimes because they believe it brings luck.
