Yes, I remember watching Phil Mickelson once use a lob wedge on one of the greens at St Andrews (Scotland), he was on the green but was still about 40-50 yards away from the pin.

if you must. sometimes i use my lob wedge to help me practise as it makes you develop a crisper cleaner strike while putting. only if you strike it with the edge though, hit it as if you are trying to catch it thin
