In terms of history, Liverpool are the best team in Britain. They've won more Euro titles than any other, won more English titles than any other, and have some of the most passionate fans out there. As for Rangers and Celtic, they are the only 2 teams in Scotland, so it doesn't matter how many domestic titles they've won as they are the only ones who ever seem to contest them. And as for Europe, although Celtic became the first British team to win the European Cup, they haven't made much of an impact since and Rangers don't look like troubling anybody.
Liverpool is no-where near being the best British club at the moment.. Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U, Bolton, Spurs,
Kilmarnock (?) are all better than Liverpool

Liverpool are a cup team these days and will never come close to winning the league again. League titles are about consistency not raising your game for the odd match, Liverpool are nowhere near consistant enough to winning a league title again. A team that lives in the past.
