Why weren't Scotland at the world cup?if they so brilliant?

we didn't get there because were crap.i cant remember who knock england out was it northern ireland.
They didn't qualify for the tournament.
They didn't qualify. Just as they didn't quilify in 02.
Scotland is not so brilliant when it comes to football
They weren't at the world cup because they didn't qualify for it. People might see them as brilliant, but it may be for different reasons. When matched up against teams like Italy, France, and Germany, Scotland may not be considered brilliant in that situation, as these teams have a lot of talent. But, to some, maybe they just like the attitude or style or teamwork that is involved in the play. So for some people, Scotland may be considered brilliant, but maybe not because they think that scotland can make it to the world cup. It might just be for other reasons :)

on there game they can play with the best. but could not beat the so called minnows to qualify.
We simply didn't qualify.given the population of the country is 5 million we don't do so bad (I seem to remember that we actually won a trophy this summer the Kirin Cup beating teams ranked above us..a lot more than the Nigels did). For the next major championship we are in the hardest ever qualifying group to be drawn up so more than likely we won't make that either but we may give a shock or two along the way.
We didn't qualify because the powers that be gave the reigns of our national side to a German of questionable tactical ability and understanding of the Scottish game. His team selections were confusing to say the least. I don't believe he played the same side on any occasion and that does not produce consistency. This has been borne out in our recent results by a side coached by a Scotsman. We have proved that we have some very good young players who can come out and stick it to the best of them, a creditable draw against would be World Cup winners Italy in the qualifiers being one example.
Only those teams who qualify regionally go to
the W.C.Sometimes England has entered separately
teams from Wales, Scott land aside of the British team
Truth be told I think it was due to Berti Vogts and the Scottish football authority. He kept on changing the squad around and after poor results consistently there was no attempt to get rid of him. None of the players knew whether they were coming or going. Scotland are nowhere near brilliant at the moment, but we have gained some momentum which we can be proud of. Whether it's down to Walter Smith, or just the players having a better time with it, I don't know. I remember we had recently played Italy, losing 2 nil to a couple of Pirlo free kicks. And I do remember Scotland being on the end of some chances as well. Now for us to only lose on 2 very well hit free kicks is pretty good, however it was a little while ago so I'm hoping the Scottish squad has improved. I don't think we're going to win one of the big competitions any time soon, however we're just happy to be winning again.
P.s By the time Berti Vogts position was relenquished as manager of Scotland, it was pretty much too late for us to qualify. There was a chance, but it was unrealistic. As for the France, Ukraine and Italy matches coming up, every fan does know that the squad has their work cut out, but hopefully some things can finally go our way. We'll just need to wait till the 7th of October to see how Scotland really rank against the best in the world.
