Haggis Hurling? Still going? Who organises it?

Are there any haggis hurling competitions happening in 2007? Where? How can someone enter?

Answers:
the who in the what in the why and the where??

haggis, not the small animal running around scotland that folk seem to want to blast outta the countryside more a interesting piece of culinary 'art' that scotish folk like to scare the foreigners with...

hurling - a most noble sport, fastest field ground sport in the world, as played by penguins on the times ad. dangerous and entertaining

I can see why you'd thing of combining the two but does and or has this ever happened? (ok apart from the lads coming home from a pub on a summer away in glasgow or dundee or edinburgh???

I'd say if you really want to enter go to the shop, purchase some stuffed sheeps stomach, grab the hurl wait until the local finishes for the night then throw the suggestion out there, I'm sure you'll have a league up and running in no time..
I would imagine that haggis hurling competitions would happen during Highland Games which have now passed (summer event) and around Burns Day - 25th January, try googling nearer then.

This event is mistakenly thought by many to be an ancient traditional Scottish event. It isn't. In the 1970s or 80s someone in Scotland made up a story that it was and encouraged all sorts of American and ex-pat clans to revive the dying art before it disappeared altogether. As you can imagine, they did exactly that and now it is a popular event at many Scottish-style events.
