Worried about swimming in the sea in Mauritius..?

I've just bought a Lonely Planet guide to Mauritius as I'm going there next month with my son. now I've got myself worried as having read the initial pages of the book it says that: there are stonefish in the shallow waters which are exceptionally poisonous and can kill as well as sea urchins with poisonous spine fins and shells such as cone shells which can fire out a deadly poisonous barb. and the list goes on.
I would not have worried so much were it not for the fact that they are in shallow water and that's where I had intended to swim!
Having read this would you still go swimming in the sea??

I think this is the same as reading the list of possible side effects on a bottle of paracetamol - if you thought they would all happen to you, you wouldn't take them. But we all do!
Swimming in Mauritius will most likely be fine (and idyllic!!) The guide is merely pointing out that these things are there - you would be very unlucky to to have any problems - I went with 4 friends and none of us had a problem. If you are worried, perhaps you could wear 'jelly shoes' when swimming as these will protect you feet if you step on something.
Enjoy your time in Mauritius - it's beautiful and it would be a shame to let something like this spoil your holiday! If it were that bad, they wouldn't have such a good tourist trade!
Bon Voyage!!
Definately, just shuffle into the water rather than step so that you can't standon anything and the motion will scare fish away. If you need to put your feet down once in the water, just be careful.
It is too lovely not to swim in that gorgeous sea, don't let it spoil your holiday. At least now you know you can take special care.
I would still go swimming if i were you, i mean if u took notice of every warning then you would never leave your house
OMG U r gng to Mauritius!!??!!! U will absolutely love it! I am Mauritian and i just came to Canada, and i soooo miss my country! U will love the beaches and the gardens and loads of places. I recommend u when u go, u must visit the Chamarel Seven Colors Earth. It is actually earth or dirt with seven colors! Go on may group tours as u can!
U will be gng in the end of winter now. The seasons are the opposite of the States.
And don't worry about the stuff in the sea. We have one of the best beaches AND sea in the world. U can go to grand-baie, Flic-en-Flac, Péréybère, Blue Bay and lots more. Go swimming in the day, it's better and safer. AND there are no sharks.
For shopping, U must go the the Caudan Waterfront, it's in Port Louis(the capital city). It's wonderful!

Have A GREAT HOLIDAY!! :)
