What year did linesmen in football matches stop running the whole line of the pitch?
Answers:
They take diagnols.one linesman runs from one goalline to half field.and the other runs from half field to the other goal line..and the ref runs diagnol, so he is always facing one linesman. That way incase the ref cant run the whole field in time, he always has a linesman in front to call offsides...the last thing you want is the ref and both linesman stuck on the goal line, while the ball gets played to half field and a 2 on one occurs and no one can see the offsides
Sorry, dont know the answer but congrats for a bloody good question.

Law VI - Linesmen
The linesmen are to indicate:
when the ball is out of play,
which side is entitled to a corner-kick, goal-kick or throw-in
when a substitution is desired
every year.
