Why does the air in bicycle tyres always smell like fish?

Because there are tiny little codfish in all air pumps including the little hand ones. I know, I've seen'em. Damn, here comes the nurse.
The inner tube is coated in that powder stuff to stop it sticking to itself. It's that stuff that comes out and smells.
