One of the best, He was exceptional in his time like George Best was, But todays players are generally of a much higher standard then back then, Probably due to the training methods employed now! Today I agree with the Chap above Thierry Henry is probably the best at the moment!
Well, he WAS. And better than the so-called great Brazilian players - who did so indifferently in the last World Cup - around at the moment. He also composes himself better as a person than say George Best or "bad boys" like Maradona, Zidane or Cantona

I dont think Pele is the greatest "footballer" in the world, maye the greatest attacker in the world but certainly not footballer. There have been many great players but would Pele have been just as great if he had to play at left back. A great player needs to be able to play in lots of positions and not just score lots of goals although this can be useful!!

No, Diego Maradona is, but you'll find a lot of English people won't acknowledge Maradona because of the "Hand Of God" incident in 1986, sad really because on individual skill Pele gets nowhere near Maradona.
