Martial arts which is the best to learn for a male that is 5'1 tall?

I stupidly was caught having sex with a work associate, by her husband. I'm 5'1 he's 5'9 and very fat. I got a kicking and many would say i deserve it. Now 6 months later the threats and the intimidation from him is still appearing. I am really reluctant to goto the police. Could someone advise me what is the best Martial Art I could learn to learn self defense with regards this situation.

Thanks

Answers:
Dude you slept with his wife. Your lucky he doesn't kill you. Either avoid the guy or quit your job.
What do you think you are gonna learn an art in a matter of days and go and kick his *** like Van Damme. Save the money that you would spend on lessons and buy a good pair of steal toes next time he corners you kick him in the nuts.
Cause if your looking to beat someone up Martial arts is not for you. And a self defence course is only gonna teach you how to scream use pepper sparay and kick in the nuts.
I suggest Aikido. It's a martial art that teaches you to use your opponent's strength against him.
If this guy has been harrassing you for so long, maybe it is time to get the police involved.
You should look into Tek Pi. IT teaches you to use your opponants momentum against them. I am a 5'1", 125lbs female, I have used Tek Pi offensively on more than one occasion and have been able to defend myself against males more than a foot taller than myself - and end it within seconds of initial contact.
Giving up that much size, yjo need a kicking style like Tae Kwon Do. Kicking gives you more reach & more power than punching. Grappling would be a disaster for you in this situation.
Don't expect to learn enough to make a difference instantly. It takes time.
Jui jitsu is the complete science of self defence. If you study the art then you will have more confidence in yourself. If anybody does physically abuse you, They will be lying on their back begging for mercy. Good luck and never be bullied although you did deserve the first beating.
No matter what you did no-one deserves to be attacked by another - I know it takes guts but you must stand up to this thug by going to the police.

It will take a long time with any martial art to get to a position where you would be able to aptly defend youself against this person.

Two of my sons have been set upon in the past and both went to court over it and both were successful in gaining assault charges over their assailants. Both of the attacks were mindless thuggery, one son was holding back a friend who had been wound up by racist remarks against another friend and my son got caught in the crossfire but fortunately the police were on the scene in minutes and persuaded him to testify.

The other was only 14 and happened to be with a friend whose family were being victimised. He and his friend were threatened by a group of lads one of whom had a stanley knife and threatened to use it, they were told if they went to the police they would be carved up the next time. My son sustained a cracked cheek bone and two broken teeth in this attack.

At the time the boys were too frightened to go to the police and thought if they didnt the problem would go away - then my son's friend got badly beaten a few months later, at first my son couldnt persuade his friend to go to the police so he went himself about the previous assault, eventually his friend saw sense - it went to court, the thugs were fined and the boys got a little compensation (not a lot) but the main thing was that an order was placed on the thugs to keep away or face a serious term in prison and they never caused any bother to my son or his friend again.

In both cases the boys were praised in court as braver than most adults by standing up and speaking out and not letting the bullies get away with it.
Are you in the States? If so, just get a gun.
I was once caught in a similar situation(not uh with my pants down though). The angry boyfriend had 6 inches and fifty lbs on me. I avoided him, but he finally confronted me and a fight ensued. I anticipated that he would throw a straight right and ducked then took him down. From there I pummeled him until he gave up. All it took was a basic wrestling take down, really. Height doesn't help you that much in a grappling match, reach is more important in a fistfight. Learn some basic wrestling takedowns. Martial arts take months to perfect, you need a quick crash course on wrestling takedowns. If you don't think you have the leg strength to do this, then you need to think about keeping a weapon on you. Taser or pepper spray work best to immobilize someone without any long term effects.

Feel free to email me if you have any self defense questions
I would second aikido and ju jitsu as both use your opponent's momentum against them, rather than being reliant on strength. I take ju jitsu and it combines striking, locks, grappling and ground fighting.

Avoid striking arts like Thai Kwan Do, Karate, Boxing etc as you don't have the reach to make these as effective. However, if you do choose to go for one of these, remember that kicks have more range than punches.

p.s. avoid weapons if you can- they'll only lead to trouble!
First and formost the martial arts takes years to master and a large amount of practice. Knowing martial arts does not mean you will win a fight. In all honesty you are in the wrong. This however does not excuse him from his over the top temper tantrum.

If you chose to duel this man understand he does not seem the honorable type. Kicking his buttocks one time will not do it. The time after your next duel he will likely bring a weapon. The time after that a bigger weapon. This has a possibility of murdering you, him, or eachother. Your best option is to allow the police to handle this. your second best option is to avoid fighting him. Yours very LAST option should be fighting him.

If you desire to defend yourself, and this is your only goal you should consider secondary nonlethal weapons. A wide variety of these products exist and are of the sucker shot ryu (style). I will give an example of such products:
Stunner
Stun Gun
Air Tazor
Pepper Spray
Paintball marker (considered a firearm in many states and will get you in deep ..)
Cane
Brass knuckles (first degree assault charge even in defense but will put down the hulk if you hit them right. be careful these have and will murder people.)

My recommendations of the martial arts styles to consider when confronting a larger apponent are as follows and in this order.

1.)Ninjitsu - Often ninjitsu is underrated as a sports fighting style but if you find an honest Dojo' its the best. Ninjitsu was used for centuries and was toned through 400+ years of civil war. It was used primarily by japanese men during the Edo period and the early Meiji. It takes every day objects and creates valuable weapons out of these tools. It also highly values the art of escape. You can not win all fights, this is the only martial art I know that takes failure into consideration.

2.)Pencak Silat - Developed by the endonesians Pencak Silat literally translated Deadly Art. The practitioners of Pencak Silat during its formation toned this art to end the life of their enemies in less then 1 second. They believe any fight that lasted more then a breath was a very long fight. In even the most basic form every movement is ended with a killing strike. I am not sure about how long this art was practiced. I only know it has survived 2000+ years and has created several thousand other Silat forms. This also makes use of very strange weapons that will distract and give you an advantage. It uses everything from Chain Scythes to a hand full of rice.

3.)Krav Monga - The isreali army self defense style. This art goes back a friggin long time. The isrealis and the Arabs have been at war in some form or another for at least 5000+ years. To put it simply the earliest history learned about the isrealis was scripts stating large scale wars with various attackers. This art is much like Silat save one difference. Rather then targetting the life of an enemy like Silat Krav Monga focuses soully on destroying your enemy. Every move from its most basic form ends in broken bones, removed limbs, cut arteries, broken necks, plucked eyeballs. It is literally the coffin nail for street fighting. It focuses on hand to hand and knife combat. This does not exclude other weapons but they are not commonly found on a battle feild so the training in such weapons was not deemed important.

4.)Aikido - This art studied the transfer of motion and uses the kenetic energy of an enemy to the advantage of the Aikido artist. This method was created by monks and is regarded as a holy secret of martial arts. Many practitioners who mastered this art have to sware not to show it to anyone but their students. Their students must regard it as sacred and protect its teachings. This art was built for escape. It was designed to by enough time for everyone and the artist to escape. It focuses a lot on grappling, bars, and locks. It was designed so that if the enemy has a weapon it is of little consequance and does not disolve the style. It does include shivs and daggers but only in extreme cases.

Honorable mentions:
Tai Chi
Kung Fu
Jumbaree' (African martial arts, I may have spelled it wrong)
Tai Kwon Do'
American Kickboxing
Shinto Ryu
Shurikenjitsu (Shuriken Ryu)

There are several thousan other forms suitable for your situation. If you have more skill then your enemy even with a system that is not perfect you will still likely win. The trick is knowing the fighting style of your enemy and adjusting yourself in such a way you destroy their Rythm Timing. The biggest mistake made by fighters is adjusting their rythm timing to match their enemy. The biggest strategy used in fighting is to slowly increase your attack spead so your enemy must constantly alter their fighting style even though yours remains. The trick is knowing when to stop advancing and fighting a new way. Miyamoto Musashi was a man who won 60 duels in 10 years give or take. His entire life he never lost. His most important teaching was to never use the same move more then twice against the same enemy. He also said any weapon you use should not require both hands. This leaves the body open at the sides and down the middle. Should you miss the first strike with a weapon using both hands your entire body would be exposed. He was also one of the few Samurai to use a Katana and a Tanto during a duel. During the Edo period most Shinto Ryu (sword style) forms used one weapon and both hands. Many attribute his victories to the use of two weapons and is perfect dueling strategy.

Now I offer something a bit more of an opinion. I practice a rather common martial art called Chigong. It has many references across every fighting style I know. It goes by thousands of named so for the ease of use we will call it the Warriors Spirit. This is your greatest ally in any battle, of any size, at any time. This is the energy you cast about during a duel. Most think a duel is entirely physical, but something much deeper, much more brutal takes place. This is a battle of Spirit Energy. Many warriors keep this art a secret. Don't expect anyone to teach it to you. In all honesty you would do better learning about it as you duel. This is the same energy that the famous Dim Mak comes from. My favorite use is something I call Shadow Casting. I Move my energy in a sudden burst in front of me, then call it back before it gets away. This usually shocks your enemy into making the first move. Becuase you choose when your enemy attacks a counter strike is easy.

ure only 5'1?? what a pityful loser...i suggest u to learn karate or taekwondo.both of this martial arts emphasises real fast attack like punches and kicks..

take up ishinryu

Feel free to message me, my contact information is open. I get on yahoo messenger often. I am usually invisible so just talk and i will get back to you eventually if not right away.
If he IS still threatening you, then yeah you do need to get the police involved because that's harassment, and you could have a restraining order against this guy, they can't do anything to you because you slept with his wife as long as it was consentual.

first and foremost, Martial Arts are for defense only, not for attacking first, and by learning ANY Martial Art, you have to be aware of the consequences of what may happen if things get ut of hand and you severely injure the guy instead of subduing him.

Even if you were only defending yourself, the courts can and often DO look at it that as a Martial Artist, you should know how to control your techniques and could hold you liable IF a lawsuit arises, which just might happen if he wants to be spiteful.

But to answer your question, Any Martial Arts is good for learning self defense, there is No "best" discipline out there, and besides that, many of the disciplines that the other contributers post may not be available in your area.

So what you'll have to do is find out what discipline's ARE available in your area by checking the phonebook, internet websites of local schools via search engines, and pick a couple that piques your interest; then take a couple of trial classes (like a weeks worth if the school allows it) from each school you want to attend and then make your decision on which one interests you the most.

but theres no guarantee that if this guy decides to step up his threats against you, that you'll have learned enough techniques or have enough time in training to sufficiently defend yourself, you may be able to defend yourself against him as a beginner to intermediate student, but it can be risky.

It takes at least a couple of years with dilligent training to be decently proficient with the techniques you'll learn.

so first I'd think about getting a restraining order against this dude, then begin your training so as it may give him more to think about, because if he does decide to go against it, then you can give him fair warning after that and then defend yourself as necessary.
Go to the police, this guy could mean business. Martial arts take years to learn, they are not a quick fix.

If you are interested in really learning an art then observe all the schools in your area, choose the highest quality school, do not worry about style. The quality and frequency of training will outweigh your style.
Tips:
Never pay for rank testing and never sign a contract.
aikido will get you squashed.

Just use your brain and file charges and get a restraining order.
martial arts ,not the answer, change job or try and talk to the guy and resolve the issue . acquiring the skills and ability to defend or beat him up hmmmmmmmmm..
Listen dude. no martial art is complete or knows the complete science as someone else has mentioned!! There is not such thing as "best". Dont listen to people that say "this art is the best" because its all lies!!

You cannot expect to learn some stupid art in 2 weeks and be able to do flashy kicks and beat the living hell out of him. You need the right attitude to boost and conquer in the world of Martial Arts.

If you really want to learn how to look after yourself, forget Aikido, Karate, and Tae-Kwondo. Although to an extent they benefit tactics in striking, it wont be enough against a guy that is bigger than you. Once he gets passed your strikes. his extra weight (and height) will dominate you unless you learn how to wrestle!!

With wrestling, look into Freestyle, Jujitsu (japanese and brazilian), Greco-Roman, or any MMA style classes. These classes can teach you to hold and control, and use his weight to your advantage. By mixing these arts, you can pin him, control him, strike him or even submit him.. even to the point of damaging him!

Remember, some of these classes vary on tactics, rules, and clothing. If you mix them all together and undestand the principles, you will get better.

However, you cannot expect to be an expert in two weeks. it could take months, even years for some people to understand the principles of wrestling. As I say, you need the right attitude to want to learn. then you will start off in flying colours!

Trust me dude, height is no relevance in a real fight, it is the person that WANTS it, AGGRESSIVE and isnt afraid to inflicked PAIN!!

For a street fight, you have got to want to HURT HIM and even be SADISTIC!! If your not up to this behaviour, street fighting is not for you.. RUN AWAY!

Trust me as I have studied Street Fighting and wrestling does play an important part. along with striking. People say wrestling is not good, even against multiple attacker but I disagree!! I am not talking about ground work. as that is just one area of wrestling, but to know how to counter. then counter-counter, stories will be made by your skills. I wont comment any more here!

I have gave you all the tools. but I dont think it will be enough for you, but REAL self defence is no easy task compared to many 'self-proclaimed' self defence classes I have seen. You really need to practice, practice, practice! You need to go to the gym and excerise. Improve you strengths and do many kinds of conditioning exercises so you dont 'run out of gas'. Conditioning IS VERY IMPORTANT!

People will see my answer as 'sadistic', but it is an honest one!! If your one of these people that didnt like to read this then I suggest you run away. ot atleast keep away from him. You may need to go to the Police afterall!

At the end of the day. you did bang the wife. so really I should be telling him how to kick your *** shouldnt I?

Besides the scenario, Good luck!!
what about the ancient art of humbling yourself and apologizing for coming between a married couple. By sleeping with his wife you have done more damage to him than any fighting could do. Seek forgiveness or just walk away.
My favorite style is JUDO, it throws and Tipping techniques. Size doesn't matter. You can get anyone off their feet with this style
I'd suggest Judo. It teaches you throws (how to get someone on the ground), Hold-downs (how to keep them there) and also strangleholds, wrist/leg/armlocks and breakfalls. It also builds up suppleness and strength quickly. And you have an advantage is you're shorter than your opponent - apparently.
For get it, it takes years to learn any martial arts to then apply it in that situation . Go to the police
no u have it all wrong! bruce lee was a small guy. dont think of your height think of your power.

i do tang soo do. lot of combat its korean.
im only 5 5 but never worry about height. its all relative - if i see a 6ft 6" bloke looking like he wants to fight me then i look at him in the eye. - u must never think of your height - think of the power u can attain.

by the way.that was pretty stupid to be caught - where the hell did u do it ? in her bedroom?
anyway it takes years of training - but good luck.
Krav Maga no added frills 2 to 4 hour seminar will teach you most of what you need to know and remember violence is not the answer - but each case its own merit of course
Depending on where you live you can do different things. If you live on the wes coast I suggest Butokukan Karate. It may seem useless at first but I'm very advanced now and haven't been doing it for a year yet. google JABKA. Click on the site that says japanese american butokukan karate association. Click on school locator and see f there's a school near you.

email colemarie94@yahoo.com for more detials
Just tell him every time he threatens you, he will find you banging his wife later that night.
Seriously though, what are your plans after you become a martial artist. Kick his ***. What happens when he then goes to the police and you end up in jail. If you carry or use a weapon the same is likely to happen.
Record his threats and play them back for him. Tell him that your sorry for what happened but if he continues to threaten you, you will have no choice but to go to the police. This guy could have serious anger issues and really hurt or kill you. You trying a flying flamingo or elbow smash you learned at the local YMCA is just gonna get your face smashed in. Try to reason with the guy, if that doesnt work go to the police. Just keep remembering that you did bang this guys wife and you probably do deserve a bit of an *** kicking.
I was getting a little worried until I reached almost the bottom of the page as very few people thought of judo.
It is a very good martial art for short vs. tall opponent, because you are taught to use your position to an advantage - for instance if you think about it, surely you would agree that throwing someone is easier if you can actually get under them etc.

Some people along the way have mentioned a few arts which are first and foremost attacking ones, but I think in your (tricky) situation a defense is more suitable.

Again I do agree with al the comments about it taking ages to master and even then won't necessarily win the fights, but anyway. I got to brown belt in judo in 3 years because I trained a lot. I'm still working on the last one :) .
The standard answer to your question is any one of the so-called 'soft' martial arts, which are suitable for smaller people because they depend on turning the attacker's strength against them.

However. for your situation, you are asking the wrong question.

It's been said before, but it's true that to become proficient in any martial art takes years of practice - and even then, most MA are simply not effective in 'street fight' situations, and there are very few MA which will give you any realistic chance of compensating for the difference between your height/weight divisions.

Your options are:

1. Go to the police and/or relocate.
2. Bang his wife some more, get video evidence of him beating the crap out of you and then go to the police.
3. Arm yourself and take pre-emptive action.

If you choose option 3 you have to be prepared to see it through - you need to have your opponent dead, or at the very least you must ensure that he is permanently disabled - or else he'll probably come after you and kill you.

Good luck! I hope the shag was worth it!
simple answer is Ju-jitsu
It is taught to the Police ,army and special forces.I had an ex-SAS instructor and now hold a 3rd dan and in the past have taught all over the country.
give it a try.
