How do you get the best time and how many cal do you burn?

The average person burns 100 calories for every mile you run. That's just roughly. If you run faster you'll burn a little more ;-)
If you want to increase your pace then you need to incorporate 'plyometric drills' for running into your weekly training (Search 'runnersworld.com for these).
Run/Walk is a great technique to use if you'd like to run more miles per week. This is especially good on 'off' days. So basically you'll find that running 5 mins, and walking 1, and repeating this, will probably make it easier to do your training on days when you don't really feel like it.
And finally.if you want to run a quicker 5km race.then you need to train for a 'fast 10km race'. And if you're running a 10km race.then you need to train as if you're going to be running 'a fast 20km race'.etc.get it?

The way I have found to get a better mile time is to figure out how fast you want to run a mile.
Here is a formula that I have found out works for me.
If I wanted to run. let say maybe a 6:30 mile here is the math.
6 X 60 (seconds) = 360 + 30 = 390 seconds
You would then divide it by 4, because it takes 4 laps to complete a mile (High School Track)
390 seconds รท 4 laps = 97.5 second per lap or 1 min. 38 seconds
I now know that I would have to average anywhere from 98 seconds or better if I want to run that mile time.
If you can do 6 laps at 98 seconds with a 1 minute recovery you have a good chance of hitting your goal.
But if you can do between 8 to 10 laps with the same recovery time, you will not only hit your mark, but you may be able to better you time by 15 to 20 seconds faster.
If you like to try it, here is a schedule that can help you out.
Warm-up and stretch about 20 min. then run 4 x 100 really easy to get the blood circulating in your muscles. Before and after workout.
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday do 3 to 4 mile run at a minute to minute and a half slower than your mile pace.
On Tuesday and Thursday do the speed workout.
If that is to hard to do, then do speed workout once a week like on Wednesday.
You should see result within about 5 or 6 weeks of training.
As for Calories, a good runners (not jogger) will average about 250 calories per mile.
Training as hard as possible and the burning of calories depends on the speed of the run.
