What happens in the "D" just outside the penalty box?

Answers:
Nothing. All players, other than the goal keeper and the penalty taker, must be outside the penalty area and are not allowed to be within 10 yards of the penalty spot when a penalty kick is being taken. The arc or D on the top of the penalty area denotes the area of the pitch which is within 10 yards of the penalty spot, but outside the penalty area itself. Players must not enter it until the kick has been taken. Other than that, as someone else has said, grass grows in it, or in Chelsea's case, it is a storage area for sand!
It's there to show 10 metres from the penalty spot - players have to be 10 m from the ball when a penalty is taken.
An opposition player feigns injury in a vein attempt at getting a penalty
A penalty arc adjoins the penalty area, and encloses the area within ten yards from the penalty spot; it does not form part of the penalty area and is only of relevance during the taking of a penalty kick.
its there to keep the groundsman busy , he likes to paint the lines.
I know , i am one.
People bring their Westies there to scratch them
i believe, and don't quote me on, this but i think grass grows in the D
the arch is just for a pk so the players are 10 yards away frome the pk. thats all. why you never had played before with a pk??
