How did Steve McClaren worm his way into becoming England manager?

Because everyone else who they considered turned it down. His 'attempt' to manage the team last night was one of the most embarassing things I have seen in years (remember Keegan's desire to use three subs all at once?)
If we had a decent media which got behind our national team and a realistic set of expectations, then maybe someone like O'Neill would have taken the job, but as things are it looks like we're always going to have to trawl the barrel for McClaren'esque wanna-be's who have never won anything of note throughout their entire career.
And, as a final point, I wish people would stop using his time under Ferguson as a way to explain that the man's got knowledge of how to win things - Ferguson won the treble, not McClaren: if we really have to cite this kind of weak association between our national manager and someone else's success, I'm going to go mad!

He was part of the sven era and the fa loved hime. They paid him a fortune to do nothing and kept paying him £13k a day after he was sacked.
They thought more of this please so lets give that guy that sits next to him the chance to mess it all up now. Who cares that he's never won anything, he does not answer questions and everything he says is a cliche!
