Where are the best areas to live in Notting Hill, London?
I'll be working in Notting Hill and will be relocating there. I'm wondering if someone can let me know which areas are better for shops, restaurants, etc. without being too pricey.
Answers:
I used to live in Elgin Crescent, between Ladbroke Grove and Portobello - its a lovely, lovely area lots of good bars, restaurants, shops etc but the market at weekends can make your life hell (about quarter of a million visitors every weeking during the tourist season) - the higher up Ladbroke Grove you go, away from Notting Hill the cheaper the property prices get.
Kensington prices (one answer recommended Ken. High St area) are still ridiculously high - depends on what you want and can afford - you can either head north towards Kilburn, not as nice, but only a few mins away from Notting Hill by bus or tube, or south to Kensington, where you have everything on your doorstop, but you're paying for it. Or East and West to Queensway and Bayswater or Shepherds Bush and Hammersmith respectively.
I'd recommend you go and visit a couple of the areas and see what feels right to you, also look at some estate/letting agents and get a feel for prices in each area and what you can afford and how long you want to spend commuting each day.

Away from the carnival route.
The best places would be Queensway, Holland Park Avenue, Bishop's Bridge Road area end of Westborne Grove bottom of Queensway. There is a lot in that area. If not then High street Kensington and around Earl's Court Road. There is Shepherd Bush it self cheap for meals. All the best and good luck to your search.
Queensway. any area in Notting hill is expensive but you can move outwards to areas like Shepherds Bush. The carnival route will be busy on August bank holiday weekend. It is fun but if you are not into such things you can always go away on this weekend.
